Doug Kalitta, Gerber Collision & Glass Top Fuel Dragster
Finals Broadcast Replay (eastern time): 9-11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 on FS1
Qualifying: Doug Kalitta was the No. 10 qualifier at the NAPA NHRA Midwest Nationals. His best qualifying attempt came in the Friday evening session when the Gerber Collision & Glass dragster reached the finish line in 3.728 seconds at 333.66 mph.
Eliminations: Kalitta suffered his only first-round loss of the season. The reigning Top Fuel champion was off the starting line first and leading the race when the Gerber Collision & Glass dragster smoked the tires. Kalitta pedaled, but the blower belt broke. Shawn Reed cruised to the easy round win.
Unofficial Point Standings: Kalitta leaves St. Louis in second place in the NHRA Top Fuel point standings. He trails his teammate, Shawn Langdon, by 116 points and leads third-place Tony Stewart by 109 with three races remaining in the season.
Kalitta on St. Louis: “I was going down there, and the Gerber car seemed pretty good, but about two thirds of the away, it smoked the tires and threw the belt off when I pedaled. It’s just one of those deals. With everybody running real close, you definitely have to get to the finish line. Thanks to everyone at Gerber Collision & Glass for being on the car this weekend.”
