That's what I'm talkin' about! :D

Was that a Dodge Demon? Maybe a '71? Hard to tell from the vid.

Thanks for the confirmation, Philip.

I had one those many moons ago, but it sure wouldn't react at the hit the way that car did.

318, ya know.

Not if your the promoter. :)

Look at the stands. The place (Byron) is absolutely packed.

Used to go to the Manufacturers Funny Car races up there back in the 70's.

I wasnt talking about the promoter, I'm talking about the idiots driving the cars. I have never understood people who spend thousands of dollars with the intention of going out and tearing it to pieces b/c thats exactly what is eventually going to happen with them doing that.

Don't throw a rod, Justin. I knew what you meant.

I agree it seems rather assinine to tear up a perfectly good car, but I doubt anyone thinks this will happen to them.

Rather fun to watch, though, you must admit. Especially when it isn't your money. :D

Regarding the contest, I'd say the guy in the Monte lost.
LOL..yea.

It does seem silly to have a wheelie contest..with the power they have today..wheels unload..nothing good is going to happen.

I have to say I do like the setup they have today for the wheelie stuff..I grew up with Little Red Wagon going 10.30's in 1969..hehe.

EDIT: with the Pro Wheelie stuff..not this Saturday night sh!t.

The guy who thrashed his Cutlass actually won that year (2 years ago I believe). I think that payout was 10K

Here's a link to last year's winning pass by Steve Blue.

YouTube - Camaro wheelie

I think that the track has raised the winning payout to somewhere in the mid-20k range this year.

There's a guy that shows up with a Gremlin, with the expressed purpose of flipping it over backwards. There are some incredible photos/video of the thing teetering on the rear bumper...wacky.

Ron Leek is the man.

Brian

Anyone know who the SS Cavalier was that stood on the bumper on Thursday at Indy, broke the pan, and oiled the track down? I didn't recognize the car. It was hairy.

Is this the Gremlin you refer to? At the very end of the vid.

YouTube - Mustang does huge wheelstand then crashes

He doesn't even get off the throttle until he's sideways in the wrong lane

Hilariously stupid.

Before you go and hang the driver it should be noted that the audio and video are not sync'ed well (typical web-vid problem) and there's also the sound of the other car going down the track to contend with. It sounds to me like the last engine sound on the vid is the CamBird going by and getting out of it at the 1/8th. ORSCA race, perhaps?

Yes that was a ORSCA EZ Street car. For anyone that hasnt been to see some of these guys race, well lets just so the "Go hard or go home" motto fits these guys. When the money is on the line they dont give up. Not to mention the fact these guys are running 3200 lb cars in the high 4 sec 1/8 mile zone and NO wheelie bars is one of the rules.
