Your Favorite Part About The Season Opener?

My favorite moment had to be getting to congratulate Del Worsham on the championship in person, but the Winters are always great with all the shiny new race cars and a fresh start for everyone.

Besides the great racing moments mentioned in this thread, I was also thankful for a table INSIDE at El Merendero... especially with it raining a little.

We toughed it out and ate on the patio :D

  1. Hanging out with other maters.

  • The NAPA car running an .0_
  • Densham running an .0_
  • Chris Demke's .2_ was really good
  • The night of Champions at the museum
  • Seeing Mike Austin stand up after the crash
  • Seeing a bunch of hot chicks around the fairplex
  • Todd Okuhara and Phil + Prestone crew get that MPH and the win
  • The National Anthem with the immediate firing up of the cars afterward
  • The warm sunny Thursday and Friday
  • The smell of nitro
  • El Merendero chorizo egg and bean burrito for breakfast

In a very sarcastic tone of voice, I say my favorite memory from pomona will be Mike Neff blasting off the line against his boss. I've always thought that makes for great racing. Please, a .175 . I bet Mike would love to drive for the DON. You know, the owner who let's his drivers race. But thats just my opionion.

My favorite part of the weekend? Windy Arend giving me the new nickname "Schleprock" for my amazing ability to bring rain whenever I go to the track. Even when forecasters are calling for a 10% chance of rain, somehow my mere presence can cause a downpour.

Seriously, Greg said it best. Hanging out with him, Paul Rogers, Paul Flores, D, and Craig was awesome but made even more so when we discovered we were sitting among the greats and then be able to mingle with them...what can I say?

One of my favorite cars of all time was the Freight Train and to meet Bob Muravez was a huge thrill. Then he invited Paul and me to come down and get a closeup of the car, like from the cockpit. WOW!

My highlight.... Falling asleep during the audiocast.... then falling asleep at the same spot during the TV broadcast....

d'kid

Michael, I thought the same thing as you about Neff's light initially. He has a good story as to what happened though, so this time I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. Still, the Force camp can't seem to get two cars down the track clean very often. Either a SNAFU with parts breakage, or late lights, or clutch timing. DSR teams rarely seem to have these issues when they face each other. But, in the past, when nothing is on the line, JFR teams have appeared to race heads-up if it is in the earlier rounds of a race. Just sayin...

I was there letting fans sit in Nostialgia funny cars but my favorite parts were hanging out with Jack Wyatt, Todd Lesanko and on Sunday helping Chuck Worsham fix there Onan generator on the coach and hanging in the Patron pits.

[*]The National Anthem with the immediate firing up of the cars afterwardt[/LIST]

Yes hearing the anthem live for the first time was definitely something I will never forget. I teared up and I'm an Aussie

How was the skydiver with the flag, he came in so fast

You guys are so patriotic. I love it!

Talking to some army guys was another highlight

My favorite part was when it was finally over. 2-2 1/2 hours of good racing stretched out to 3 1/2, perhaps the reason why they had to show DeJoria's raccoon-eyes pass about 46 times. No disrespect meant towards her, of course.

C'mon, ESPN. Tighten it up a little next time.

Your sarcastic remark has a believeable ring to it. Neff's no snoozer.

If it ain't so why does it keep happening ?

1. Gary Densham's performance both in qualifying and eliminations. That team certainly gets the most out of the least amount of money! Gary is on the Phoenix entry list but he told me he wasn't going to Phoenix-and that was after Round 1, before the accident with Fast Jack.

2. Randy Goodwin going crazy on the track after Oliver beat Payne!

so many thoughts on this but i'll refrain ;)

Densham going to the Semis....
Jeggie going to the Finals........

For me though, Spencer Massey's Semi Final pass was AMAZING to watch. I thought that this is interesting, from the Monday Morning Crew Chief article on the NHRA site.

"Massey did his normal routine in the semi’s and began to anticipate having to manage a light front end when it took Tony Schumacher extra time before he was able to roll into the prestage beams. The fuel tank is located just behind the nose of the dragster chassis underneath the air vent that is visible atop the body, and the approximated 20 seconds added to Massey’s standard return burned roughly two extra gallons of fuel, taking 18 pounds of weight off the nose that are necessary to keep it planted on the racing surface."

That run was a thing of beauty. I still can't believe the speed that popped up on the board!

I really thought I was gonna get blasted for my Neff remarks. I think that's why I like this site so much. You can post your opinion, and if your not too far off in space, or your not trying to lay waste to someone's reputation, fellow MATERS will expound on the subject, either agreeing, or disagreeing. But usually with a civil tone. Expound is a word, right? When all is said and done,Neff must be thinking, my r.t might cost Mike Wright, pick-the-winner points. Gettin spacey, later.
