Good pass , but is that a record? are the thousand foot records now based on 1000 foot times taken from previous quarter mile records? If not then how do you know that the records now are actually records?
 
Records were first recognized starting in the Countdown last year and the basis of the ET and speed records was the quickest and fastest runs since they implemented 1,000ft racing. The current national record is Schumacher's 3.771 from Richmond in 2008. It should also be noted Schumacher and Cory Mac also ran in the 70's today. I think the quickest 1,000ft ET is a 3.75 by either Kalitta or Grubnic. I will let someone who is up on their stats verify that one.

No records are set at any testing sessions. Only set at NHRA National Events.

Somebody asked a good question on Facebook... SO WHAT WOULD THAT PASS BEEN AT 1320???? Answer.... BLOWN UP!

The wick is set at 1010' on these bad boys.

Impressive GAUNTLENT THROWING PASS by AJR. Then again.... with a Chad Head prepped track .75 is very possible!
 
Shouldn't they prep the tracks like a national event? I mean testing should be on a track like they use week in and week out.

In other words, one lane slick, greasy and bumpy and the other unusable.
 
According to their Twitter accounts, Cory Mac ran two 3.77's and Antron ran over 322mph. It is fast in Florida today, how low can Capps go?
 
Wow the NAPA car doesn't have any red on the front end anymore, and it's got extra detailed pinstripping. Love the pinstripping!

Any Johnny West sightings in the DSR camp?
 
I don't really get testing other than to get your crew prepared . . .

If someone is a nitro/ps crew chief out there maybe they can answer this question I have:

How many other times in the season is the adjusted altitude, barometer, humidity, track/air temp just like it is in Florida in January?
 
I dont think the point of testing is anything to do with the air and weather conditions , they can change all over the show anywhere . I think it is more to test new combinations and ideas whether that be in the ignition , fuel , or engine systems or clutch for that matter . If they were to test those things at a national event it could easily go wrong and put them out of the game . But if they test outside of a national event then if it goes wrong then no harm done that idea didnt work move onto the next one rather then risking your chance at winning a race at a national event .

One team could perhaps be really struggling with something and not know why , testing allows them to try and fix that problem without it effecting points or whatever . I can imagine testing would be important in any class from jr dragsters upto top fuel and funny car . I guess it would depend on how serious you took your racing operation . Imagine the testing that goes on at the shops , fuels systems run on flow benches , clutchs tested , blowers run on dynos . Anything to get that edge on the competition .
 
Good points William; also, take into account new crewmembers who may actually be "auditioning" for a position, setting up the haulers & tools, trying out new tools & support equipment, computers, weather stations, Planning your pit layout, checking everything out...... stuff you can do alot of back at the shop - but you also need to see how functional it is after riding 12 hours in a trailer. It's better to discover problems now than at the racetrack in Pomona.
