Do some research and you will find over a half dozen individuals/teams with equal or more funding available than the Summit team. But that isn't what makes them winners. And it is not what made Shane a winner this past week.

The money allows teams to acquire the equipment and talented individuals to set up the equipment. It also allows them the ability to change either one or both of those components when they see the need. The change usually doesn't bring in better or more qualified components/people, but it changes the chemistry of the team. Sometimes it just brings new life and focus to everything/everybody.

Like it or not, this is a very team oriented sport. Jim is a very talented pro stock driver/tuner/crewchief, but the changes made to the Gray team brought additional focus/dedication to the crew and driver and it resulted in a national event win. The true test is whether they can sustain this level of dedication and focus over the long haul. Like them or not, the Summit team has sustained the required level for several years now.

Like you said Virgil, like them or not, I would think that any true racer that is serious about winning has to admire what the Summit Team has done over the years. Those guys have the drive to win.

Their performance and consistency proves they are simply the best in the class. Considering the narrow margins in Pro Stock it could be argued they are the best the class has ever known. There were others that have won more to date, but there weren't fields seperated by .06 back then either. It's far more difficult now than ever.
