WORSHAM'S FRIDAY BETTER (BARELY) THAN LAST WEEK'S

Memphis, TN (8/18/06) -- Del Worsham pedaled his car out of severe tire shake near the starting line, then had to lift when the car spun the tires at the 1,000-foot mark, leaving him in the No. 16 spot after Friday's sole session. Severe weather caused a more than four hour delay Friday, and washed out one of the two planned qualifying laps. One week ago, Worsham spent Friday night outside the field, but bounced back to grab the No. 9 spot on Saturday.

"We weren't the only ones to shake out there, so it wasn't a slam dunk by any means, but I'm pretty disappointed we didn't get a good solid full lap on the board," Worsham said. "The issue now is what the weather will let us do tomorrow. It was brutally hot and humid here today, pretty much just awful, and then the rain came in and it just poured on us. Tomorrow, we're scheduled to run a couple of hours earlier than today, so that first session is likely to be a mess, with the thermometer up over the 100 mark. We'll just have to see what the track and the weather give us.

"I'm not yet sure why we shook so hard on that lap, but we're digging through all the data right now to sort it out. I pedaled the car and it hooked up pretty well, but it got ahead of the track a little on the timing curve by being pedaled and it was starting to spin down there. I didn't see any sense in blowing it up and catching on fire just to run a 5.20 instead of a 5.47, so I got off it."
