TIRE SMOKE ENDS WORSHAM'S FRIDAY

Del Worsham's monochrome Checker, Schuck's, Kragen Impala spun the hoops just short of the 330-foot mark during Friday's lone session, leaving him part of the large (and star-studded) group of "outsiders" after one lap. Worsham's 6.141 technically ranked 20th, but the qualifying system actually does not recognize the time. Ashley Force, John Force, Bob Tasca, Tony Bartone, Tommy Johnson, Frank Hawley, Jerry Toliver, and Jim Head join Worsham in the "also ran" category.

"It spun pretty hard leaving, so much so that it felt like it wasn't going anywhere," Worsham said. "It spun then, but it didn't smoke them there. It got out there to around 330 and that was it; up in smoke. I think we just overshot the mark by way too much, probably aiming for a classic Friday night run, but the session was run when it was still pretty warm and the track just wasn't going to hold that kind of horsepower. We'll have two chances tomorrow, to get the CSK car deep into the top 12, so that we don't have to worry about qualifying for the race while we compete in the US Smokeless Showdown on Sunday."
