"Winter"? - Nationals (1 Viewer)

Seems a bit off the mark to have the "Winter" Nationals in April. Maybe we all here could be a grass roots effort could have NHRA change the name of it to something else?

Perhaps the "SoCal Nationals" or "Pomona Nationals"?

And yes I know, having the "SpringNationals" in mid-June for years was also somewhat anachronistic too. Just wanted to have a discussion that's all. I'm sure there are better possible names that my suggestions.

I think NHRA has always intended to move Pomona back to February and be the 1st race of the year again, so that may be why they have continued to call it the Winternationals. I could be wrong. Definitely not Winter in April, at least not in SoCal. Not even Winter in March here in Florida. :-(

i like the start of the year in march, not february, regardless of location.
i do prefer the start in FL, yet i understand the history of the winters, which i believe is scheduled to return
as first race next year

My Wife and daughters are currently in LA on vacation. It was close to 90° yesterday.

On a serious note, the February Winternationals date was always great for us Midwesterners. We could get away from the cold and snow for a few days. For me personally, I could do the trip pretty cheap since United and American Airlines have hubs at ORD and LAX.

Definitely a nice thing living near a big airport like that, except for the TSA lines I guess. Cheaper, direct flights and several to choose from.

Is Midway competitive like that price-wise?

wow I totally missed that thread altogether, but then February wasn't a great month, and I wasn't online that much.

maybe moving away from the old seasonal monikers and creating new names (with sponsors hopefully) might attract new people's interest. I suppose one could never underestimate the inattentiveness of the consumer.

Gainesville was cool compared to what I'm seeing for phoenix in a couple weeks. Over 100 all three days. Ugh!
Yea, running top fuel at 2:30 and 5:00 pm in this is going to be quite interesting. Chandler doesn’t cool down much by 5:00 pm. So both sessions are going to have really high track temps.

when high track temps exist, i wonder what the go-to tuning methods are? what changes are made?
the clutch and timers are obvious, but what about blower pulley size, tire pressure, wing angles, nitro percentage,
magneto settings, etc. ...... which ones do the CC's want constant, and which ones are used to tune for conditions?

TSA lines are all about timing. Most of the time my experience has been good at ORD. I know the airport really well, so I don't have issues.

I don't fly out of MDW much and I don't care for flying Southwest. I'm the west suburbs, so ORD is closer for me. My south suburbs racing homies like to fly out of MDW because it is closer.

All of the above.

I had a layover at O'Hare once, in the pre-9/11 days, for about 2 hours. Made the most of it and had some legit deep dish Pizza. Was time well spent!
