Another driver brought $$ to Gwynn's team and Mike was out of a ride and has not been back full time since.

Wasn't Hank Steinbrenner behind that deal?
The Cowin family had something to do with Mike's departure as I understand it as well.

and people wonder why I don't like the Yankee's...:rolleyes:

You can choose to hate the Yankees as their sponsorship discontinued or hail them for entering into drag race sponsorship in the first place. (Read any Evan Knoll thread) I don't see other MLB teams jumping in like the Yankees did but I'm glad they stepped up and took a chance on Gwynn and Dunn. I suspect they are also glad for the opportunity.

It's either half full or half empty all over again.

When Cory drove for Gwynn in `03 (which was the final year of the Yankees sponsorship) I had a long talk with Gwynns PR guy at Vegas I and he had lots to say about the deal. The problem with the Yankees sponsorship was that all the $$ involved in the sponsorship was paid up front in one lump sum. It`s not The Yankees fault that the $$ was used up before the end of the sponsorship contract. Cowin brought $$ to the table only after the $$ had been spent. Remember, Cory brought Berryman $$ to the team that final season too.

I knew I liked ya Timmah!

As I am sure you can tell I do not like the Yankmees either :D However I will say that I thought the paint job on that Yankees car was great. That blue with the pinstripes was very nice. I was hoping that the Red Sox were going to get invloved as well and create another rivalry. Oh well.

Fingers crossed the Sox will take tonights game.

Not!!!!!!:):

Even though I'm a die hard Snake fan, I did like the Yankee Top Fuel car. I still wear the polo shirts ( I wear the white one more than the blue). You should see the looks I get when people read the embroidered "Gwynn Steinbrenner Top Fuel Dragster" with a baseball bat and "NY Racing". Lots of "Coooooooool":D:D

The Cowin family are billionaires and I like Dunn but Andrew is smaller/lighter which is ideal....and did I mention they have big $$$$$.

Smaller I understand, but aren't they all up against a minimum weight anyway?
I wondered the same thing when they said John Force's car had less paint on it this weekend because it weighs less that way.

Notice Avatar Dr. Dirt... I was born into Yankee dislike... But I like Chris Schoen... he is good people!:D

i got more than fingers crossed Jimmah!!! Yes, Timmah is not the biggest fan of the YANKMEES but, I also liked that car... it was very classy! I am a HUGE SUPPORTER of THE GWYNN'S and MIKE DUNN, but the day I saw that car debut in Pomona, was like when Bob V showed up to Vegas with a brown car...

That was a great example of Supporting the Team, and not the sponsors. But, yes Jim, I would love to see the Sox Colors on a top fuel car some day... With me driving! Of course, any car I drive will have my avatar stickered on my helmet, so SOX NATION will always be going down the track!

If they can get under minimum weight they can ballast back up to it, and put the weight exactly where they want it. Not loose however.
