As I posted under a different thread, and I am not saying Whit is not familiar or not a fan of NHRA, just adding to conversation of who is going to be on TV. - Don't know about status of the commentators on ESPN-Dunn, Reif, John, Gary. Hope they are back. Did ask John on Monday about status he said "we are employed by ESPN, not sure whats going to happen but would sure like to be back". Same settiments I'm sure of all. What we do not need is someone who is not familiar and a fan of drag racing on FOX.

I am sure their contracts are quite flexible. Some of them have been on several different networks at once. (Jamie Howe) No reason why ESPN would want to keep any motor sports announcers since they have no motor sports now. All they need to do is be extended an offer and I am sure both announcer and ESPN would be quite agreeable to mutually terminating any contracts early without any issue.

Having said that, I think the program has grown stale, predictable, and quite cookie cutter.
It's downright boring at times which is bizarre given the extreme sights, sounds and performance of Nitro Drag Racing.
You have to really try hard to f**k it up.

Starting off with new folks may just be what the doctor ordered, especially in the producer/director aspect.
Please, ditch those losers. Whoever produces/directs the current show is gawd awful.

I would like to see Dunn move over for sure, and I really liked Jamie Howe, and maybe one or two others, but a fresh start is needed or it will all feel the same, and it desperately needs to feel different, better, more genuine and certainly more faithful to the actual Drag Racing experience, and not the worn-out melodramatic junk they dish out now.

Here's to FOX gettin' it right....

am hopeful the current crew stays on, i enjoy them all including g. gerrould, j. kernan and b. massel......what i hope we don't see
on fox is what we hear at nat. events when the pros come out....the mello guy or whoever it is yelling into mic something about
'HERE COMES NITRO' or something to that effect.......please:rolleyes:
whit would likely be a good addition.

When you do the same event 20+ times a season, it is a bit difficult to make each one too incredibly different sounding. In the NFL, NBA, MLB and such there are only so many different questions that can be asked or scenarios that come up game after game or race after race. I think the current crew does a good job. Production wise they seemed to have done better balancing the JFR love (scooter cam anyone). Other than the long down time during the live shows, I think they do fine.

Many, not all but many, of the drivers are on auto repeat in their interviews to cram as many sponsors in that it makes their interviews boring. Others like Beckman, Capps and Brown, are able to balance the plugs with heart, genuineness, insightful and entertaining interviews. That's not on the production crew, that is the on drivers to present themselves as more than robots.

Here here.

Jack's one of the best. He manages to get sponsors plugged, but yet you still hear good informative stuff from him.

I'd like to see the whole crew move over. I happen to think they do a good job.

Didn't Whit do interviews in a couple of shows last season?

It is difficult when you do interviews, you have your talking points you need to get across, in the case of the drivers, it's sponsor plugs, plus look human, be interesting and even entertaining not to mention don't messed up and say something stupid or controversial. After 100's if not thousands of interviews I can imagine that it's hard not to go to autopilot.

It will be 24 events, don't know if it will be live.

The agreement calls for FS1 to provide coverage of Friday and Saturday qualifying and Sunday eliminations for each NHRA Mello Yello Series event, with a minimum of 16 Sunday eliminations shows to be presented in a live coverage format, and the remainder shown either in weekend afternoon or primetime time slots. Four of those live elimination shows will air on the FOX national broadcast network.

NHRA officials unveiled the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule during the running of the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. The 23-race series remains motorsports’ most geographically dispersed U.S. touring circuit and will make its traditional stops across the country, thrilling millions of fans with its unique brand of high-horsepower entertainment.

I know they are in talks with Topeka, but right now its only 23.
