A.K.A.- What Else Is WRONG with Pro Stock...

How does this-

pass a template test when it originally looks like this-

i'm willing to bet, if larry ever starts laying down some serious et's, they would quickly outlaw it, especially now that ford is history.

The template does not fit the stock body. They are allowed to deviate 2" from stock dimensions in all areas, when they get it the way they like it, then it goes to NHRA for approval. The template is then created from the NHRA approved body.

Nuthin' stock about Pro Stock.

While showing the Mustang don't forget to show the late model Camaro and Mopar... More of the irrelevance of Pro Stock.

The P/S Camaro looks like it was run into a wall and buckled the whole front end. It couldn't be any uglier or further from stock.

And yet, the class prospers as our only professional class with a link to Detroit... And people wonder why the manufacturers have no interest.

Irrelevance. Great choice of words.

that Mustang is still kinda, sorta has recognizable Mustang body lines (of sorts)...which is more than can be said about the other brands' Pro Stock cars...

and if that Camaro is only 2" narrower than the OEM version I'll eat my hat

How about just calling it Modified Production?

And (suggested by a friend)- Let's have some of the current P/S teams look at Factory Stock, but keep the rules as they are so that it doesn't become another Billionaire Boys Club...

Don't they already have that class... called "Stock"? Maybe one can't make a living going across the country running the stock class... therefore a Pro Stock class is a thing of the past.

Pro Modified Production works though.

I would love see a photo comparsion of all the production version and pro stock version of the cars that have raced in the class. I think then you could really see where this thing went off the tracks.

For funny cars it was Bernstein’s batmobile Buick.

I was watching the new YouTube post of the 1977 Summernationals, which I attended, and watching Dave and Steve do some great coverage of ALL the classes and enjoying the cars run sixes.

Oh wait- those were the funny cars.

Pro Stock was in the eights, and looked like the factory cars, down to the weatherstriping on the windows. Bigger rear wheelwells and a hoodscoop. But you could recognize the Camaros, Pintos, Hornets, Mustangs...

Then I watched the Indy Friday coverage on ESPN3, and even the guys in the booth were "commenting" on Larry's (and NHRA's) deviation from the stock body lines.

He!l- the nose SLOPES the wrong way, entirely.

Just playing devil's advocate a bit, as much as we complain about PS and FC bodies being so far removed from stock versions, remember that the gradual aero mods over the past few decades are part of what have produced the performances that we have witnessed.
