I agree, Jesse, and would go one step further and say that it would be better for the sport if we had only single car teams. But we both know that's not likely to happen.
In the past, single car operations were successful because there weren't multi-car teams (at least not as a rule). The operations that were successful figured out ways to improve performance more quickly than their competitors. That success often lead to high-dollar sponsorships which made a second (team) car feasible... and then a third... and now we're so far past the edge that it's unlikely we'll every go back. IMHO.
Without the multi car teams, there would definitely be more single car teams, but my guess is while you may still maintain full fields, a bigger percentage of teams would be regional or part time, so overall less teams running the full pull. Which maybe would dictate a change to the points chase. Possibly move toward something more like the alky cars where you claim a certain number of events. Who knows, just spitballing...
