I know it means about as much as a warm bucket of hampster vomit, but I am behind you in this one John.

Thanks. I can't believe I'm catching heat about their obvious use of NOS! Those guys were my heroes. I gave them every benefit of the doubt, even when the mechanical evidence and outpouring from competitors was obvious. I remember reading an interview with Bruce Allen where he said "if someone broke my et record holding motor with a hammer I'd build another one just like it". They never built another motor that performed the same way and were never competitive again. Go figure.

I'm shaking my head in disbelief...

Dan,

I appreciate your comment and take it as a compliment.

I really don't believe I'm assuming anything. If I have any part of this wrong please correct me with proof.

DA's drug issues are well documented in court.

It's the NOS, cheating, and story telling that put mud in the faces of Mopar fans. We thought we had something...et records, top speeds, event wins and NHRA championships. It was all tainted and all make believe. Wayne County was nowhere near the field after the alleged break-in.

I'm just glad our current Mopar Pro Stockers compete honestly and ethically.

lol. thats the biggest scam ever! one of the big three manufacturer (back then they were, not anymore thanks to toyota) drag team could NOT build a motor after a break in with hammers? heeheee they were caught red handed . but the nhra isnt going to kick out one of its BIGGEST $$$ contingecy sponsors (mopar) due to some nitrous! lol. mopar guy will fight to their death denying this but we all really know what happened. shame for the competitors back then. i truly believe the guilt was very hard on wayne countys owners.

John, I don't know how you can be so darn sure no one is out there cheating today. Not with NOS, but other ways they have gone undetected. There are alot of people out there that could outsmart the NHRA tech dept. if given the chance. IF you knew a sponsor was going to leave if you didn't produce, one might take that chance.

If my memory serves me correctly, the excuse used in the "break in" was, that was the last of the motors being used. They took off for a year(what a coincidence) and came back with a different motor design. They were using GM blocks with Mopar heads and GM made after a grace period, stop using the GM blocks. The Mopar fans screamed about it claiming GM didn't make the blocks,Catapillar did. That was true but they were GM's design and Cat only cast the blocks. The Wayne County deal has been debated several times here and no one really knows for sure. If you have any reasoning and common sense, you know the answer. I commend any Mopar fan or anyone else that uses common sense and reasoning.

NOS in a fake battery. Line hid inside cable running to the motor. Ran inside motor through a hollow bolt. That's what I was told at the time it happened.

Court of public opinion? This post is harsh AND judgemental!

Darrell was very remorseful about that whole deal wasn't he, John? I find it to be in good character to be able to make a mistake..pay for it..and move on and be a better man than you were before.

do you feel the same way for jerry eckman?

So was I! I never could explain why Mopar poured so much more money into them afterwards and stuck with them so strongly that Darrell (one of the best drivers regardless of what he did on his spare time) & Scott were still paid even without competing. Maybe there was a reason Mopar stuck with them?? Think about it, if your headliner team REALLY WAS CHEATING, would you even give them the time of day? Or would you come up with some other 'reason' you cannot continue your involvement in P/S. We see teams lose sponsors at the drop of hat all the time for WAY less than the accusations that were flying around back then.

I realize perception is reality, but just something to think about.

I will tell you why they didn't lose thier sponsor, because no publicity is bad publicity. Everyone is still talking about it 10 to 15 years after the fact. and mopar hung in there with them.

Brent,
Thanks for the youtube video.

Any truth to the rumor that Jerry Eckman loaned Jason one of Tom Hammond's new "Experimental" Dry sump tanks before the run???:D

Just joking people..lighten up!!

I swear I saw someone use Johnny Mopar's name and "credibility" in the same sentence on this thread??? What's the world coming to??

The most shocking thing about that video to me was Nobile, qualified for an NHRA race...WOW!
