How about this? Back to 1/4 mile. All TF and FC teams get one engine per car. Any part can be replaced except the block. Any nitro percentage you want.

We'll see longer turn around times if this happens. If you want to go down this road, maybe a two block limit in case a rear main gets blackened or some such.

If a one block rule ever did go into the rule book then someone sure could make a killing with a mobile block repair truck. I know of at least 7 teams that would have had to pack up and head home after second round of qualifying at the last Pomona race. I don't think as a fan i would enjoy sitting in the stands watching all of the by runs on Sun.

While I'm anything but an expert, the way I understand the concept, the rule, (after the obligatory learning-curve was conquered...) would force the teams to run a non-block destroying tune-up.

It's a great concept on paper, but it is anything but practical. Nitromethane is a highly volatile fuel. You put it in your tank, you're going to have a malfunction eventually, whether you're running 6.30s or 3.60s. To make a rule that limits the amount of maintenance you are allowed to do on a fuel car is not safe.

What it would do is force teams to patch up and run blocks that should not be ran which will cause even bigger problems. My guess would be that teams would try to make one or two good runs in qualifying and sit out the rest. That wouldn't be very exciting for the fans. I'm not saying limiting the number of engines wouldn't work...i just don't think one engine is the answer. I don't think a small budget team would want to travel 2 or 3 thousand miles knowing that there is a very, very, very good possibility that they may be coming home after one pass. But hey, at least some on here are thinking and talking about what could make the big show better...and that's a good thing.

Our type of racing, (DRAG RACING) is by nature an ALL OUT race, in the Pro classes. Unlike an endurance race where you are trying to make a race engine go fast yet last 12 hours or 24.
Or 500 miles. So to limit engines, or any replacement parts is out of the question.
If you want to slow the cars and oil downs limit the ET's or MPH, problem solved.
This could even put you back to full 1/4 mi on the shorter tracks if you still insist.

Guys, I know we're bored, but we're re-hashing the same ideas, myself included. The horse has been out of the barn for decades, even nostalgia racing doesn't have a one block rule. And the current team owners don't want to go to a neutered fuel car for the sake of 1/4 mile racing. And there's probably something to be said for that, i mean watching cars go 330 mph in less than 4 seconds is awesome. The cool thing is we have the whole nostalgia program to enjoy as well, for those looking for a slower, 1/4 mile race.

It does sound good, but I don't think anyone ever really goes up there with the intention to window the block or scatter the crank all over the track. Even the softest tune up can have the newest intake valve break. Boom goes the dynamite!
Jets are exhibition vehicles. They're not competing for the same structured points and championships like NHRA fuel cars. Nitro index racing, which is essentially what you're suggesting, but including MPH as well, would go over like a turd in a punch bowl.
I'm only halfway joking when I say the only way to get young people fired up about drag racing is for someone to release a first-rate smartphone app. The last national event I went to, at Ennis, Texas this year, I couldn't help that every teenager within 10 yards of me, with almost no exceptions, was texting their friends during Top Fuel qualifying, not even bothering to stop long enough to stick their fingers in their ears.

I disagree sir. With all the talk about how to slow the fuel cars, no way will all agree on one method. So set either a MPH or an ET limit (not both)and let the crew chiefs decide how they want to do it.
(1) It would make RT's even more important. (2) As time goes on it would drastically reduce oil downs/therefor down time. (3) It could even bring back full 1/4mi racing. (4) lower cost to racers.
