What are your expectations being a member of NHRA

I expect that the "Dragster" will be mailed every week as dated and then promptly appear in my mail box. 
I expect that if I am helpin' out one of my friends at an N.H.R.A. sanctioned track and get snuffed by some strange event, that the N.H.R.A. will choke-up enough cash to help plant me. I expect that the traditional sportsmen classes ( NOT the "super" classes) will always be part of "The Big Show" and that these grassroots racers will be treated with the same respect as the pro's. I hope that less money will go into the salaries of the Board of Directors and be put back into the operations of our sport.

I expect them to make sure that racing gets promoted and supported.
That means helping member tracks (a national resource with information and programs to help promote, advertise, book, and run a successful track).
That means helping racers (through lobbing to keep our racing way of life going on the legislative front, as well as through research into safety for drivers, through education on sponsorship, driving, and management of successful racing operations, through programs that help racers in need.
That means helping spectators (through promoting racing, putting on events, television packages, safe spectating environment).
All the other professional organizations i have/had belonged to provide basically the same thing....a few for less money.....but I guess those organizations use MEMBERS to run the show, don't worry about profit....and those who run it do so on a volunteer basis.
As far as the comment on "NOT THE SUPER CLASSES"...would be easy to have this whole thread turn into a super vs not-super class bash-fest but not really what it's intended........at any given race (national or divisional) I know WHICH of the sportsman classes put the most INTO the pocket of the NHRA and shear number of cars in the country (bracket included) that have a "super" in the title would also far outnumber any other sportsman class in number of entries and therefore amount paid to NHRA...and if we were going by each sportsman competitor gets one vote who do you think would have the most pull....the Super classes or non-super classes...my guess is the Super classes would get what they want in that set up......and yea, it would be nice to be treated with a little dignity at the Nationals.

as an NHRA member i pay a ton for national dragster every year, so why do i pay the same as a member at a national event than someone whos not an NHRA member, NHRA members should get a 10 dollar discount at events over non- members, and another 10 when i show my NHRA competion licence. wheres the benefit???

When I become a member of any group, whether it is NHRA, AARP, Redbox, etc., I only expect to receive the benefits they told me prior to joining that I would receive. I join based upon their promises, and I just want them to deliver on that alone.
I don't expect the right to dictate how they run their business, what they should earn, or any of the other assorted things that they monitor.
If I don't agree with their philosphy or methods, then I don't join and go find somewhere else to spend my time and money. If I want to dictate methods and policies, I start my own organization and enlist members that agree with what I am doing.

You do get a $10 discount at events, but you are obviously not using it.

Alan I am a dues paying, membership card carrying member of the NHRA. Like you Virgil I want what I was promised. In the bylaws of this organization it stipulates that members will have the opportunity vote on the Board of Directors for the NHRA. I'mk quite sure that you would want it too if was available to you.

The original bylaws may have said that and if you were a member prior to the proxy vote of the members, you had that right until the membership voted for a change. Whether the vote was swayed by stretching the truth or not, it was a vote of the membership and it is done.
If you joined after the vote, you were not promised an opportunity to vote on the board of directors. Either way it is done, and you have had your day.
Can you imagine the turmoil created by a popularity vote to elect individuals to run the organization every several years? The leader of any group has to make decisions that are going to upset many individuals but are for the survival of the group as a whole. Look around at all the groups that have failed once the dictatorship type leaders stepped aside. And most leaders step aside because they just get fed up with all the BS from the people they are trying to help that goes with the job.
I do not agree with many things the management team of NHRA does, and some individuals on the team do many things out of spite when they feel they have been wronged. But I must respect the overall accomplishments of the organization and I feel they provide the best venue and atmosphere to be overall successful and safe as a drag racer.
Many things they do that are considered self centered and egotistical have been done, for the most part, for the survival of NHRA itself. Could it be ran better, probably, but it could be much worse. Could it be more successful, most likely, but it could also fail quickly. Are their methods going to change, not likely, as they haven't changed from day one through the leadership of several.

I had to give this post some thought so that I could respond in an intelligent thoughtful and responsible way. Yes our country is thee greatest show on earth. The reason this country is dynamic is that it is a collaboration of ideas given by diverse society. I can remember my father, a stern man, absolute, and firm in all his convictions. There is only one way to clean a window and if you do it any other way you are doomed to failure. I believe that is close minded, not willing to accept that there could be a better way. The major portion all the progress in motor technology did not occur with just one man's thinking. It was idea here, some process the other guy is doing, what tire are you running, I tried this cam and it is not doing it for me what is your thoughts on that, like this forum the are many opinions expressed on this forum, but if we all get together an collaborate with one another we would come up with a pretty good product. Dictatorial leadership leads to many things: innovation and learning is stiffled, a vacuum is created because no one is encourage to collaborate, and people get tired of being led to think that their either unintelligent, or not made of the right stuff to do the job. No other organization in motorsports holds a candle to the NHRA. Its diversity and innovation has held my interest since 1963. When you are just a number that's all you are I think some rethinking has be done. Just because my neighborhood has some problems I'm not moving. I'm hanging in there to see if I can in the long run make a difference.

Unless something has changed over the past couple of years those can't be used online or over the phone, only at the gate.
I gave up and let my membership go a couple of years ago.

I was a member for 22 years. The biggest benefit in recent years was being able to listen to qualifying with Alan and Bob. A big disappointment was the loss of a printed Rulebook delivered to me every year.
That being said, one of the things I expected was some respect for supporting the organization for over 20 years. When I showed up at IRP (or ORP or LORP)
with some friends, I went to the office, showed the receptionist my membership card, and asked if we could have a look at the track. She went to an office in the back. talked to someone, came back and said "No" - without any explanation. I took this to mean that those NHRA employees at the track really didn't give a S$$ if I was a member. Don't bother telling me I am overly sensitive or a "baby" - that has already been done.
