Weis in a "Foul" Mood in Brainerd

BRAINERD, Minn.(8/13/06) -- Top Fuel pilot Scott Weis was looking forward to a long day of racing at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway on Sunday, despite a three hour long rain delay. Weis was anxious to bring the Barrett Enterprises/Council of Carpenters Top Fuel dragster back into race mode after sitting out for six weeks, skipping the "Western Swing" portion of the 23-race long NHRA POWERade drag racing season. The Ashland, VA., veteran was happy to see the clouds open up and get to the starting line for his appointment with No.2 qualifier Brandon Bernstein. Weis thought that he needed to take a chance on the christmas tree and fouled out, seeing lots of red in his path; a red light as the eventual race winner, Bernstein drove his red Budweiser car to a first round victory.

"I felt I needed to try and see if I could get the Barrett Enterprises car out first," said a disappointed Weis. "I am very proud of the way that my co-crew chiefs [brother Howard Weis and Garry "Skippy" Kennedy] have the car running. We don't have the funding to go test, so we made huge strides with our time off figuring out what it would take to get to the stripe under power on all four qualifying runs. We were pretty successful there and look forward to learning more of what our car wants in Memphis."

Weis will compete in the O'Rielly Mid-South Nationals next weekend at Memphis Motorsports Park.
