Always loved watching Al, he was the real deal. His rivalry with Force was epic, both their fire suits were black from clutch dust and fires. It was a great act to watch but off the track they were friends and had a lot of respect for each other. I remember after the bad crash in Gainesville John flew him home after he was discharged from the hospital. No rivalries in Top Fuel like that any more. The "good old days"........

John flew him home? Al lived in Umatilla, FL. about 80 miles from Gainesville. No plane needed.

John was very kind and helpful to Al after the crash, but they were never hanging out having a beer after the races.
