Toyota Prostock??? (1 Viewer)

Sorry all for the momentary thread hijack--I'll go away now and we can get back to the toyota pro stock talk.

after 08 if im correct there will be no more GTO bodies because of the rule on year of when production stopped. no more GTOs in pro mod as of next year. so i can see toyota getting their solara bodies out there for 09. i cant see just cobalts and stratuses out there. my bet is if it happens, probably 75 percent of GTO drivers will go to the cobalts and toyota will throw $$ out there so the rest can go with the solara bodies. i can see the bodies with the drce 3 engines at first. if toyota is thinking about a 500 inch pushrod motor of thier own, that would take a few years of R and D before they are out there. unless pontiac is going to make another body for pro stock, and the only one would be the g6 and that car is ugly. just my thoughts though.

Well - in spite of spending huge bucks, four NASCAR Toyotas go home . . . again. Jarrett gets the UPS car in on the BS past champion rule, but 8 mph off the pace. Blaney somehow winds up in P11, but I am hearing the C word. If post qualifying inspection finds something, recent fines and points deductions could look pretty minor.
If you were the executive at Toyota who approved this fiasco (probably not the same guy who reportedly spent hundreds of millions in F1 with similar results) would you spend millions more to also be embarressed in drag racing?

Jeff,

What about the new G8 that Pontiac has announced? It is based on the new Holden from Australia if I'm not mistaken, but has a nice look to it (my opinion) and comes with a V-8 and is rear-wheel drive I believe. Would make more sense than to go to the G6 which is front-drive and only comes with a V-6. Or, since Pontiac decided to come out with a clone of the Cobalt, the G5, maybe they could just have all the Pontiac racers go with that since obviously it would have the same dimensions as the Cobalt. Any other thoughts?

Thread on 'Yota in Pro Stock officially derailed again!

that g8 is such a good looking car, but only comes in a 4 door

Well then that won't work, will it?

That doesn't matter with the plastic fantastic/carbon fiber crowd in Funny Car as a 4-door Charger or a 4-door Impala just lose the back doors, huh? Can't really do that with a Pro Stock body although they still take lots of liberty with the body dimensions. Those Cobalts and Cavaliers were stretched a bit and the Ford Escort bodies are really a stretch if you catch my drift.

If Toyota gets involved in drag racing it will raise the financial bar to the highest shelf.....
Got that right. TRD has spent a large fortune developing their Tundra race V8. Mark my words, Toyota will be serious contender sooner rather than later in Nascar.

Toyota has the money to do what ever they want. If they get the green light to go NHRA PS racing, GA and crew will have some competition.
