Almost 18 weeks have passed since Steve Torrence’s last ride down a 1,000-foot drag racing track, and much has changed since then.

Torrence will make his first appearance Saturday in the new Torrence Family Racing Top Fuel dragster during test sessions at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. The track is about a 15-minute ride from the team’s shop in Brownsburg, Ind.

“This weekend is a testimony to what we’ve been doing – all the hard work and everything,” commented Torrence. “It all comes down to this weekend where we get this race team out of the shop to the track. We’ll fire up the car for the first time and do some testing. It’s all going to be the fruits of our labor.

“The guys put in long hours and weekends to get to this point. Everything has come together really well.”

Car builder Brad Hadman finished his work on the sleek dragster Thursday and all that remains is loading the car in the hauler and making the short drive to the track.

If all goes according to plans, Torrence’s return to NHRA Full Throttle action will be in the O’Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals, Sept. 23-25, at Ennis, Texas, near Dallas.
