Steve Torrence pleased with new Top Fuel team’s test results (1 Viewer)

Rain may have sent Steve Torrence’s Torrence Racing Top Fuel dragster back to the shop earlier than planned, but it didn’t prevent Torrence, crew chief Richard Hogan and crew from making two short runs in the new car at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

“It was pretty good,” Torrence said of the car’s first run. “I clicked it at 330 feet and we were able to get enough data from it. We went about 660 feet on the next run and it was good, too.”

The performance put an exclamation point on Torrence’s decision to start a new team.

“We’ve come a long way in the last four months,” he commented. “Richard Hogan and I started this team with nothing more than cell phones and a checkbook.

“I was very impressed. We fired up the car for the first time and things went very well. We achieved what we set out to do . . . which was to get the car down the track and make sure it is ready for this team to make its debut at Dallas next week. We have a good group of guys. I was very pleased.

“I want to thank all the guys from Morgan Lucas Racing, John Force Racing and Alan Johnson Racing who helped us get everything together,” added Torrence. “We couldn’t have done it without them.”

Hogan said the team was “excited to get to the track. They were tired of being in the shop and they were ready to get out of there. Now we are getting ready to go racing.”

Qualifying for the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals begins Sept. 22 at Texas Motorplex near Dallas.
