TOP FUEL vs FUNNY CAR @ World Series (1 Viewer)

IT'S THE BATTLE OF THE AGES ...
GREEK VS WILKERSON AT O'REILLY AUTO PARTS WORLD SERIES
In an unpredicted move, officials at Cordova Dragway Park have put together a spectacular attraction and a battle of the ages as Chris "The Golden" Greek Karamesines will face Tim Wilkerson at the 60th O'Reilly Auto Parts World Series of Drag Racing. "It's only fitting to have one of the original Super Stars of the World Series who is still active in Top Fuel Dragsters take on the home track favorite in his Nitro Funny Car" mentioned Gardner.

In keeping the World Series of the leading edge of drag racing, Gardner feels a time will come when Top Fuel Dragsters and Nitro Funny Cars will all be raced together in the same class. "As the cost of these race cars keep skyrocketing and the number of competitors is slowly eroding you will someday see Nitro Fuel become one class as they are already experiementing with that concept in Europe" concluded Gardner.

The 60th O'Reilly Auto Parts World Series of Drag Racing is the oldest continuous drag race in the World and features Top Fuel Dragsters, Nitro Funny Cars, Pro-Stock, Pro-Mods, Wheelstanders, Jets, DRO Nitro Nostalgia Funny Cars, Wheelie Cars, Mafia and much more! The event is Friday and Saturday, August 23 & 24 at Cordova Dragway Park, Cordova, IL.

Should be fun to watch, but when the Greek isn't having mechanical issues, his car routinely runs 3.90s. There's no way Wilkerson can match that.

FCs vs. TF cars? It was tried once (Bristol, 1999) and never did gain much support after that. If they throw the cars together in the same class, after one season you won't see any nitro FCs at all. Even the smaller 1-car TF teams are 2 tenths quicker.

It was tried once ... and a funny car won! If I remember correctly, the floppers had a .3 headstart on the tree. The Top Fuel guys would leave on the sound of the Funny Cars leaving and red light a lot, leading to Al Hoffman slapping the throttle trying to goad Bob Vandergriff into a red light. Vandergriff held it together and went to the finals to lose to Force in the Superman car. I also believe that was the last Winston Invitational of any kind, it was moved from Rockingham to Bristol for '99. Bristol got a National Event in '00 and Rockingham moved to IHRA sanction.

As for running top fuel and funny car together, you are assuming that rules will remain the same. They would either add weight to the dragsters (terrible idea) or take away blower/fuel/mag to slow them down. You think guys in TAD or Pro Mod whine a lot about rules changes/parity ... the fuel guys would take that part of it to a whole 'nother level.
