You won't be able to put it down. I read it all in one sitting. It's not what you might be expecting by the title. It is great none the less.

I was able to purchase the book at the Kalitta merchandise trailer. I have only had time to read the prologue so far, but it was very good and i'm hoping to knock a few chapters out this morning.

I very seldom read books anymore. But, i finally found the time to read Jim O's "Top Fuel For Life". I figured i would just read a few chapters each night and i could finish the book within a couple of weeks. So, i sat down at 8:00 pm a few nights ago to knock out the first couple of chapters. Well, i couldn't stop reading it once i started and i finished the 250+ pages in a few hours. "Warning" don't read the book in public if you don't want anyone to see tears in your eyes.

I'm halfway through it and I agree, Marc. It has really caused me to take a step back and re-evaluate some things in my life. I've never been a Top Fuel Crew Chief, but a 30 year career in the Navy seems to share many of the challenges he describes - both professionally and at home. The constant need to excel and perform, the pressure to do better, the grind of being away from loved ones for long stretches of time, the friendships developed while away that make your spouse feel like she's coming in 2nd, the alcohol, the stress... Yup, been there, done that, and I got the t-shirt.

Thank you, Jim-O, for having the courage to publicly confront some of the demons a LOT of us face and deal with each and every day but either don't want to or aren't willing to admit. If your goal was to reach at least one human being with the hope that they would learn from some of your life lessons (I choose to not refer to them as mistakes), then you, sir, have succeeded. Well done & thank you! Hope to see you at a race soon... and if you're not too busy, maybe get my copy signed.

I have read it cover to cover. I'm probably a little biased, but I also thought it was great. He did a wonderful job talking to a wide audience. This is not a Drag Racing book. He does mention many racing names, and people from the Kalitta camp over the years...which for me was like going back in time....but even if somebody had no clue who Dave Grubnic, Scott, Frank Bradley or even TammyO is.....the book is truly...about life lessons that apply to everyone, everywhere. Its been a pleasure watching JimO's career...and this book just adds to the story...and really opens my eyes about things that are a hell of alot more important than race cars.
