Saw the end of the NASCAR Las Vegas race where as usual, the winner Denny Hamlin did a big Chi-Town Hustler-style burnout in front of the crowd. It went on for quite a while. It sure made me long for the "good old days" when that type of burnout was so common with the Funny Cars. And I also thought it was kind of embarrassing when a "Taxi-cab" driver can do a far better burnout than we ever see these days at the drags, with any class. Of course, I don't think their track is prepped with all the sticky glue that we use. But what about the tire compounds? If we got John Force to do some burnouts, say, in a parking lot - with no glue laid down, of course - would today's tires smoke just like the old days? It sure would be fun to see. But if we get Force to do a few "Final" burnouts, it would be on an NHRA-prepped track (lotsa glue), so would his tires even smoke that much?
