I loved the Snake as a racer, but feel that he has become arrogant. Either that or I have just become aware of it.

A couple of years ago a mate of mine scored hospitality tickets for 3 of us in the Miller tent at the Finals of their last year with Miller.

We were in the hospitality tent for 3 days, guests of Miller, and not once did Don or Larry acknowledge or speak to any of us even though they sat around and chatted with family and friends.

That did it for me as it appeared that they did not give a crap about the people in there that they didn't know.

The whole team had an air of arrogance about it, even the guy coordinating the hospitality.

LMFAO....... !! is what it is Paul, is what it is !

Well, Don has been there and he's done that to the extent that I'd think he can share one honest opinon without being insulted like he has been here. It's obvious to me that "they" meant the majority of the spectators, not the nitpicking, self centered hardcore ones who think that everyone in the stands sees everything exactly as they do. Damn, I must be arrogant, too.

What happened to people getting credit for being outspoken? If he saw this thread, you might be able to forget about him ever doing that again. Now I sound like Jim Jannard. :D I don't see anything arrogant about what he said.
Well said Ron.

self-centered, nitpicking .....yeah.... objecting to shortening the strip by a football field length is ' nitpicking'

objecting to a legend of the sport saying we wouldn't notice if they didn't tell us is 'nitpicking'

whatever . I hope NHRA and it's sponsors enjoy the moron fans they seem to want. I never was one of those shirtless idiots standing at the ropes during a warmup anyway. But that's all this sport is going to have before long .

Read it again. I don't think Don was talking about you. I don't think you're the average fan in the stands. By self centered, I mean by assuming that most fans in the stands are as hardcore as you and I. I don't think they are. I think your opinion of it being a lesser show is as valid as Don's is of what I think is the average spectator.

BTW, talk to old timers about how match races used to be rigged so the "best two out of three" wouldn't be decided until the last run. Instead of no shirt, I think it IS entertainment for people with $20 T shirts and $15 baseball caps. :D From a marketing standpoint, your best customer might not exactly be the brightest light on the face of the earth.

Like I said about switching beers on people after the first (and I've never seen anyone be able to tell), I'll bet Don might be more right than you think. I bet a lot of even the hardcore fans wouldn't have been able to tell if they hadn't known and been mentally critiquing it going in.

You really know what a quarter of a mile looks like from the stands well enough to go to a track and say "Hey! That looks about 300' shorter to me!" without someone telling you first? (Reminds me of some states with their exit signs informing me that the ramp is 9/10 of a mile ahead. Just say a freaking mile, already! What bast*rd needs that kind of information?)

Don's been in the entertainment business for how long now?

Im sure most of the fans know more than a Snake or a Force huh Ron?........LMAO

If those idiots will BUY shirts, I bet they're exactly the kind they want! :D Now that I think about it, one of the shirtless diehards I see at Bristol during warmups (cuz I'm usually standing beside him, shirted.) has been there forever! I've seen "names" say hi to him when they walk by.

I do disagree with 1,000 at tracks that have sufficient shutdown. Whether we'll ever see standards that define what sufficient is? Possibly a can of worms they want to avoid opening. I still say it'd be interesting to see a comparison on paper of all national event track shutdown and runoff areas/devices. What kinds of engineering formulas would you use and, would some tracks not even be qualified for 1,000 ft? How do you determine what a 2,000 lb car SHOULD be running into at 300 plus MPH?

I did something different in the front half of a bracket dragster a few years ago that was NHRA and SFI legal. Inspectors didn't like it but, according to their rulebook, there wasn't a thing they could do about it at the time. That's what I was told. It was an area they didn't want to have a spec for because there were too many different designs out there. I finally received a thumbs down from NHRA's technical review board. I still have that on NHRA letterhead. A rule for my car that was never published in National Dragster or the following year's rulebook. I think they just did it to see if it would stick at the time and I just let it. I think they don't know WTF to do about the shutdown areas because of how hard it would be to define.

I'm sure they'll take the people who've bought West Coast Choppers decals for their back windows (who'll never own a $90,000 motorcycle) over us, anyday.

Well, I just wonder. If you "didn't tell them" at what point the average diehard fan even would notice if you kept shortening the track by 50' a race (without the numbers changing, I know)

If a guy walked and stood at different points on the track in 100' increments and you had to try to estimate which one he was at?

I've got a feeling that I'll be able to tell a big difference in 1000' vs. 1320' at Dinwiddie. Our trackside camping spot is at about 1100 feet. I think I'll be able to tell the difference in fuel cars screaming by me at 320 mph vs. cars that have shut off. At least I'll know who won.

Murdock.

Yeah but, you're how much taller than the average spectator? Yeah, you were real hard to find when we had to turn over the turnover. :D There you go, throwing logic into it, knowing at what footmarker post you're camping at. :D

The average spectator is probably in the stands?

For the sake of example, what if they told you that you were now camping at the 1,500 foot mark? Would you really say "Hey! I think we're at the 1,200 foot mark!"? :D

"Honey, I think that car was doing more like 300 instead of 320! This is bullsh*t!" :D
