I read this early in the morning. Thanks Phil Burgess for a great article. Only thing he left out was the Surfers had a 1955 Chevy wagon push car & had a branch as a hood ornament. The fans loved it. When they ran that 7.34 at Bakersfield in 1966, it was Low ET of the World. Now you know why.
That brings back memories. I think I first saw the Surfers at Fontana, and they were a sight to see. They looked like kids which probably led other teams to disregard them. Because of that and that they won a lot, they were an underdog favorite. In those days you could go to the Beach on Saturday and hit Fontana on Sunday.
