I see the above picture, Whose is this, and what are the improvements? I do notice the stout bottom end!

Without knowing the team dynamics, why not do r&d with the Montana brands car? Also, I get "preparing for tomorrow," but not at the cost of not finishing today's work. There's got to be some balance point right?

When did they start dovetailing (or whatever they're calling it) the main caps into the side of the block?

Who's design is it? That should keep the caps from moving around....

Trying to go faster , like all crew chiefs do. Torrence did the same thing.
If you look back; everyone eventually caught up to Torrence in performance. His only choice was to change. They rode their championship combo out as long as they could IMO.

Because the Montana car is not an R & D car. You could also make the case, the Monster & Montana car aren't necessarily team cars either.

Great thread. My question is given how far ahead Grubby was last year, how can it be that he got caught so quickly in the off-season? It’s not that the other teams have just caught Grubby, they’ve blown past him and all seemingly in the off-season.

How about Brittany though? She’s gone from being one of the worst leavers to rock solid. Kudos to her. Shame she doesn’t have the car this year.

She may get to play spoiler in LV. Air temps on Sunday mostly in the 50s, topping out low 60s? I bet Grubby can still run on a cool track with dry air but hope it’s not too cool. Doesn’t look like a t-shirt day though.

If the weather forecast stays as is, we might see a bunch of tire shake mixed in with some great runs. I’ve been to every single national event in Vegas and this would have to be the coolest Sunday temp yet.

Did he get caught or did he slow down (relatively) compared to last season? I havent taken the time to look, but the things they've tried this year just seem to have the car slower. Idk.

Grubby last year seemed to always have a little more than everyone and would usually run last and make it down the track. This year, he is missing it more often and running earlier in the sessions. Little changes can make big differences.

I think he’s slowed down. I don’t think it’s possible for the others to have made up so much. The question is why he burned the whole season testing stuff that didn’t work. Wouldn’t you revert to your old package at least for the CD?

I understand what Alan said. You have to try things to keep above your competition. Unfortunately it didn't work for Grubby this year. It worked for AJ though. Doug Kalitta could win this year.
Things move (around) very quicly in this sport. How many people - on SEPTEMBER 1st - thought Doug would be competing for a championship this year? Same, I suppose, for Leah. Certainly making the playoffs fun and exciting.
