Testing is Over; Janis Team Ready for 2011 Racing Season (1 Viewer)

Elma, NY– With the offseason behind them Mike Janis and his Elma, NY based team headed to Valdosta, GA for some pre-Gatornationals testing. The team spent three days testing several combinations in hopes of being able to run with the best the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Series has to offer.

With the NHRA slowing down supercharger overdrive for the 2011 season from 20% over to 14% over the Janis team was forced to abandon their scheduled R&D program and adjust to the new rules.

“The off-season rule change hit us pretty hard. We had hoped to focus on cylinder head development and other areas but due to the rule change we had to scramble and change our focus. I know we don’t have the power to run with the turbo guys, but we have made some gains in the horsepower department and with a little consistency maybe we can have a shot,” said the team’s chief designer and fabricator, Kevin Peters.

On the final day of testing in Valdosta Janis was able to make back to back consistent runs.

“Our plan was to just get off the line. That’s where a majority of races are won or lost. We know that if we gain some consistency in our 60 ft times we’ll have a shot. I’m pretty pleased with the results,” said Mike Janis.

The next stop for the Janis and his team will be the 42nd annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gator Nationals in Gainesville, Fl. March 11-13. Janis and the other Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge competitors will be afforded three shots at making it into the 16 field for eliminations. Round one of qualifying will be held Friday, March 11, at 1:45 PM (EST). The second round will be later that same day at 4:30 PM. The final qualifying attempt will be Saturday at 12:45 PM. The first round of eliminations will be held later that same day at 4:15 PM. Final eliminations will run in conjunction with Sunday’s professional eliminations.

Following the Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway, the schedule features stops at some of the biggest events on the circuit, including in Las Vegas (April 1-3), Houston (April 29-May 1), Atlanta (May 13-15), Englishtown (June 2-5), Bristol (June 17-19), and Norwalk (June 23-26). Later in the season, the 250-mph machines will race at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis (Aug. 31-Sept. 5), in Charlotte (Sept. 15-18), and in Las Vegas (Oct. 27-30).
