<P> (8/21/08) Elma, NY – Located near Tornado Alley, the city of Tulsa frequently experiences severe weather and this weekend the Tulsa weather could be the determining factor for IHRA racers. With temperatures in the high 80's to low 90's this event has all the ear marks of a "tuner's race".

Mike Janis Jr., Crew Chief for his father's '67 Firebird Pro Modified is well aware of the curveballs that weather can throw at a crew chief. "We've faced a lot of adverse weather this season and most of our troubles with the weather can be traced to the amount of water in the air. Tulsa, while it does get some rain, is known for its' hot yet dry climate and that can be advantages to our blower combination. The last few races the weather has favored the nitrous guys and to be quite honest pulling up against a Halsey or Castellana has been like trying to swim against Michael Phelps, but I think we'll have something for the nitrous guys this weekend,' Said Janis.

Team Owner/Driver Mike Janis is well aware of Tulsa's historic impact on drag racing. "I can remember reading about Don Garlits' Pro Racers Association event in Tulsa in the early 70's. What he and the AHRA did for drag racing was huge. They ran an event opposite of the U.S. Nationals and paid more money, something like seven times more. The history of this facility and the racers that have raced here are legendary. I'd love to add my name to the list of drivers that have won here," said Janis

The IHRA Skull Shine Sooner Nationals will be held at Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma from August 22nd thru the 24th. Pro Qualifying is scheduled for two sessions on Friday, 2:00 PM & 6:30 PM, with two more on Saturday,2:00 PM & 6:30 PM. Eliminations are scheduled to begin Sunday at 11:00 AM.
