Team Size Limits

I think its a fine topic. It was an interestion question + point.
With only 3 new threads in the last 48 hours, whats the harm? It took longer for you to gripe about it than move on to the next thread.
If a team can afford 5-50 or 500 employees-great. Nobody is working at Ferrari by force. And these are the best of the best. Anytime you get that many smart minds in one place, trying to make your car faster than the next team, how can that be a bad thing?
Racers-be it drag racing-F1-local go kart track-are the best problem solvers out there. The bigger the brain-trust , the better the team.

I know that a lot of these teams use FEA (Abaqus) and CFD (Fluent) codes for simulation. I wonder how many of the 500 people dedicated to just design and analysis via simulation. I imagine quite a few.

Contrast with drag racing, where a common tool is Solidworks (which is an outstanding program, especially when coupled with CNC machines). I've yet to hear of anyone using high end FEA/CFD (like the aforementioned Abaqus and Fluent) in design of parts in the drag racing world.

The only company I can think of that would use a high end CFD program in design of parts is Aerodine, but they have IndyCar customers, too, which requires quite a bit more aero work. I would be curious to know what they use. Fluent?

Tom,
WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU BABBLING ABOUT????? Doesn't sound like it has any bearing on team size... only requirement I believe is speaking english, perfered fluent english....

It was a failed attempt at derailing the thread. I guess I could have left it at "how many people are used for design and analysis in F1 vs. NHRA drag racing"

Thanks Tom... ya got me laughing... having a bad day with the throat/neck/shallowing/ lifting the right arm thing... wish I knew ten months ago what I know now... would have told them not to bother... :(

But I clearly mis-judged. What people around here want to do is complain.

Nah... You KNEW that. Just a temporary lapse in memory!! :p

It's a fine thread and very relevant as a comparison. Folks just tend to forget that it takes less time to SKIP the thread than to piss all over it. But again, you knew that. <<<grin>>>

I did enjoy the comparison as I don't really follow other motorsports too closely. So consider my mind boggled at those numbers!

Well, I am glad I was good for something the day I posted that. I hope you get to feeling better soon...
