Strong Start in Indy Places Line Second (1 Viewer)

As befitting the biggest drag race of the season, the largest Pro Stock field of the 2011 Full Throttle season showed up on Friday for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana with 28 cars attempting to qualify. Among them was Summit Racing driver Jason Line, who came into this final event of the NHRA’s regular season second in the championship standings.

Further heightening the challenge were the extremely high temperatures in the Indianapolis area, which topped the century mark during the day and producing a very hot and slick racing surface. Undaunted, Line took advantage of his single opportunity on Friday to cover the quarter-mile in 6.650 seconds, tying his KB Racing teammate Greg Anderson for the top spot, with Line’s 207.62 mph top speed earning him the provisional second position entering into the second of three days of qualifying,

“Today was a good start for the Summit Racing team with Greg and I taking the top two spots,” said Line. “Of course, this was only the first day of qualifying and we have four runs remaining on Saturday and Sunday. Still, this KB Racing crew did a great job of adjusting to some very difficult conditions with results showing up on the race track. There’s certainly room for improvement, so we’ll come back tomorrow, see what Mother Nature throws at us and get after it. It’s a great start to the weekend.”
