Story about George. In 1970, at Lions, the night before the Garlits accident. A match race between George & Garlits, both driving flathead dragsters from other racers. Garlits won the match. Thot it was so cool to see both of them in flathead dragsters. I remember the announcer saying something about being in flatheads again. Also remember George driving the rocket car that Fling Traylor (sp?) owned. Car would be pushed to the line and staged. Then BANG and off it would go, smoking the tires. Saw that car at San Fernando.

What is the status of the beautifully restored Stone Age Man 1968-era dragster? I believe it was an RCS car, and it has made sporadic appearances at the CHRR over the years. But I don't think it has been in attendance for awhile. I seem to recall it was owned by George's son or grandson? Is that right?

Those are some fun shots, Jeff. Thanks for posting. I like the classic shot of the station wagon push car after starting the bitchin' Stone Age Man dragster, completely weighted down in the back by what appears to be a standard-issue very fat crew guy. Good times.

Jon, I’ve sent nitromater info to him, I think everyone would enjoy his recall of those days, he might be doing another podcast, I’ll let everyone know if that happens

First photo with high front axle AA/GS style, very Evel to drive on nitro, second and third photos with lower front axle not as Evel to drive but broke a lot of driveline parts (driveshaft, B&M Hydro transmission, and real axels).

Woody was restored to street version by new owner Jose Logano in 2003, almost 50 years after I first bought it.

If I remember correctly, that car spent years in they rafters at the Ventura Community College Auto Shop before it was brought down and restored.
