David, Mike Clancy drove for you. Did he drive JR/F at one point? I remember his name.

Clancy and Carpenter Junior Fueler!

They were part of the big Lions' JF group and still active in the Nostalgia racing/Cacklefest activities on the West Coast.

The thing that really hooked me on Junior Fuel was the fact that this really appeared to be do-able to the normal racing fan. A couple of guys, a garage and a lot of passion was all that was needed. If you ever get the chance to look through a late 60's ND or Drag News classified section, you will see just how possible it was to cobble together a little fueler.

The thing that was cool is that this was a "budget NITRO class". I usta love to watch these guys run at Lions. 310 CI limit, most of 'em were small block Chevys, with a 299" Desoto or 2, and one guy had a small block Ford with Dan Gurney heads. All cast iron blocks & heads. They would runs mid 7's at around 190. I think CJ Pappy Hart started this class. Usually, Lions had this class, plus Top Gas Dragster, plus AA/FA, and what a great show! I'd get out there when the gates opened and leave when the last pair ran. I still do that today. :)
