BRISTOL, Tenn. – Greg Stanfield has a golden opportunity Sunday to solidify his hold on second place in the Full Throttle Drag Racing Pro Stock standings when he meets defending series champion Greg Anderson in the opening round of the NHRA Ford Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.
This is the third time in nine races that the title-contenders have squared off in the first round and Stanfield won both times, at Las Vegas in April and two weeks ago in Englishtown, N.J.
Stanfield’s best qualifying run of 6.729 seconds at 204.35 mph in the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP put him 11th in the 16-car starting lineup. Anderson, meanwhile, turned in his quickest quarter-mile run of 6.711 at 205.26 mph on his last quarter-mile lap to pull into sixth place.
Going into eliminations, Stanfield is second with 585 points to Anderson’s third-place 571. Jason Line is the leader at 642.
