Stanfield misses 4-Wide Nationals win by 5-thousandths of second

Greg Stanfield came oh, so close – five-thousandths of a second to be exact – to winning the Visitmyrtlebeach.com 4-Wide Nationals Pro Stock title Sunday at zMAX Dragway.

Stanfield stayed side-by-side with Greg Anderson during the thrilling quarter-mile ride, but the win light came on in Anderson’s lane in 6.566 seconds, 211.39 mph to Stanfield’s 6.559, 211.10 in a photo finish.

The two rivals were in the same semifinal quartet, only this time Stanfield got to the finish line first in another nip-and-tuck outcome. Stanfield’s Nitro Fish Pontiac GXP won with a 6.547 at 211.49 to Anderson’s 6.549 at 211.20, a margin of .014 second.

Stanfield came in second (5.652, 211.23) behind Mike Edwards in the opening round.

“We were able to take advantage of the testing we did during qualifying and use it Sunday,” said crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia. “We had a good run in the semifinals and we are happy to be in any final. It was a good race.”

Stanfield is third in Full Throttle Drag Racing Series points with 317. Anderson is on top with 336, followed by Jason Line at 333.
