Greg Stanfield almost advanced to the semifinals of the AAA NHRA Fall Nationals Sunday, but Jason Line beat him to the Texas Motorplex finish line in the second round of the second Countdown to the Championship race.
Stanfield put the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Pro Stock GXP into a good lead off the starting line with a .023-second reaction to Line’s .070.
Line, the current Pro Stock points leader, was able to get around Stanfield before the finish line when the GXP slowed to a 6.685-second, 207.34 mph quarter-mile run to Line’s winning 6.624 at 208.23.
“He ran us down,” said a disappointed Stanfield. “We’ll just go home and get ready for the next one.”
That would be at Reading, Pa., Sept. 29-Oct. 2.
