Sponsor Poaching

Let's see, when Kalitta Racing fired Jeff Arend after the end of the season, leaving a popular and capable driver with very limited time to find a job for the 2013 season, it was called a "business decision." Now Rocky Boots leaves Kalitta Racing to invest THEIR MONEY with Don Schumacher Racing, an organization that has produced vastly superior results for its sponsors than has Kalitta Racing, and it's called "poaching?" I call it karma.

Poaching? Good grief, Jim. Don't you think that ANYONE that has a chance to be a part of DSR..wouldn't jump at the chance??

Don see's an opportunity and probably makes his case with the sponsor..win, win.
I wonder why Trick Tank didn't sign on with DSR when they called?

Penalty would be on the team not the sponsor.

Same thing. Where is the team going to get the money? From the new sponsor I bet. It's similar with what is happening in college football when a team wants to leave a conference. To leave the ACC it now cost $50 million. Something tells me that Maryland got most, if not all, of that money from the Big 10.

But even if they aren't it has nothing to do with the subject of poaching.

It has nothing to do with this, which is the reason why I posted it. Trick Tank has nothing to do with this particular situation so why bring it up other than to be a smart a$$? Stick with current events not something that happened 10yrs ago.

I don't believe Rocky Boots was ever a "major" sponsor for Kalitta, rather an associate. As of yesterday, they are still listed as a team sponsor on their web site. Guess we'll see when they start testing, or at Pomona.

NHRA, who says they want to help the racers get sponsors, keeps so many companies out of drag racing by their no competition clause. It remains amazing that they are truly that stupid! But consider the source, 3 of the top suits came from a dog food company! Ya get what ya pay for!!!!

Stealing deals...if you want to call it that...has been going on in motor sports for years...that's why when you talk to a pr person or someone on the team its one reason they are super mum about potential sponsors

Lets see,
I'm a Fortune 500 Company looking for the best possible return on my advertizing investment. I want to put it in NHRA Top Fuel or Funny Car. My choices are:

1. An organization that has the 2012 tf/FC Champions and the last FC champion and is extremely knowledgeable in sponsor activity Always finishes in top 10. Great Guys to work with.

OR

2. An organization that has few if any recent Champions, Is well organized, but changes sponsors about every 6th race. Finished in top 10 in TF, Sometimes qualifies and sometimes doesn't qualify in FC. Great Guys to work with.

Seems like a no brainer to me #1 wins

Times 2!

With Rocky Boots going over to DSR, is it a poaching job by the Don or is it just a sponsor wanting more exposer? what's your thoughts?

I think they wanted primary exposure on a FC and Kalitta couldn't do it. They weren't willing to go for a whole season deal as primary and DSR had a deal for them. Best way to keep a sponsor is a long term contract and proven ROI just like any other business.
