Speaking of Australia, IDK that I've ever heard a louder fuel explosion than this one: [video] (1 Viewer)

holy kaboom!
This is from many years ago and I've experienced many blow ups in-person before, but never seen/heard one caught so well on recording.

I hope they fired the driver.
They didn't, T. It was her dad's car. I was there that night, and I felt it good. It was also one of the worst driving jobs I've ever witnessed.

Paul, I agree. The sound was perfectly captured. At that period of time a lot of money was poured into the TV deal, so that obviously helped capture the sound well.

Wow, all or nothing, until there was nothing left

One of the best videos I've heard of an explosion was from Les Mayhew when Antron had his explosion/crash at Pomona. The sheer violence of the explosion and how it was captured was amazing.

Mark Oswald’s imitation of a nuclear bomb at the 1990 Chief Nationals is still the worst one I’ve ever witnessed. Our seats were even with the starting line.
I felt the concussion from my seat.

The Oswald crash still amazes me. I always remember him reaching for the roof hatch. It was a good thing the body blew off & the driver in the other lane shut off early. Wow....

Antron's crash was scary as well. It happened soooo fast....

I was there for that one. It blew up right where I was sitting...impressive.

not to derail, but Antron won the championship in 2012 and had that brutal crash at the 2013 Winters....Brittany did the same in 2018...

Mark Oswald's is number one in my opinion, but we should also recognize Shelly Anderson's at Englishtown (the ground literally shook), and Ivo's at Indy, with the supercharger going higher that the finish line tower.

I think the explosion of big-league drag racing down there is louder.

It HAS to be heading for a hard reset, Bobby. I'm of the opinion that neither side (ANDRA or IHRA) are doing the best job here. More politics than racing, and yet those responsible aren't likely to communicate to their members in an open forum. We do need to go back to one sanctioning body, but in order for that to succeed, we need new faces that aren't weighed down by years and years of personal grudges, egos, illusions of grandeur, and an understanding that the sport is well and truly evolving into the 21st century - the scariest thing I hear is 'we just need to get it back to the way it was in the 90's' - RED. FLAG.

Finally, someone gets it!

We were standing at the fence near the stripe. Really loud, shrapnel everywhere; we're lucky we weren't hit. I didn't notice the blower lobe flying by out in front of the car in real-time...things happened pretty fast... but when I say the replay and the still pictures...oh, me....

As bad as that boomer was - it's the one that's always talked about when Meyer's name comes up - this one in Montreal back in 1977 (time stamp is wrong) nearly ended his career. Burnt him bigtime; Connie Kalitta personally flew him out in one of his cargo jets right in the middle of a raging thunderstorm - at the time, the Canadian ATCs were on strike. Meyer later said he was more scared of dying in a plane crash than what the race fire did to him.
