they owe that woman an apology. not to mention every man in america. all
I want to ask Southwest is why she's not on every flight.

I flew Southwest yesterday from OKC to Vegas, as I was boarding the plane I told the flight attendant that greeted me if they had any women who were dressed inappropriately to sit her next to me and I would "handle it". The flight attendant was NOT amused.

chris & bob,
great responses, especially the 'they were not amused':D

but if i can be the devil's advocate for a moment......
last week I was traveling and in the course of that 1/2 week i had
one conversation and read one article that addressed this issue.

the conversation i had with my dad. we were talking specifically
about wardrobe as watching people in one our nation's largest airports.
my comment was something to the effect 'the way some people are
dressed, i wouldn't expect to see them traveling'. my dad's response
was, 'used to be if you were traveling, either by plane or train, it
was suits for men and dresses for the ladies.

the article i read talked about declining issues in a major metropolitan
area. one of the topics in the article was declining dress codes in
the city's restaurants; basically said same thing; 'proper attire used to be norm for fine dining, now it seems anything goes'

although i would probably like the woman in question to sit next to
me on a flight, what we're not seeing is what the flight crew saw as
she boarded the plane; my guess would be she looked slightly different
than the sit down pose shown in photo.

well Mike I hear you - about restaurants. When I'm flying there's only one thing I care about - being comfortable. In my case that means an elastic waistband and as many drinks as I can get the Attendent to bring me .

:D

The flight crew did not see her as a problem until one passenger complained about her. They kicked her off the flight because ONE passenger was offended by her clothing.

The best comment I heard about this was a passenger interviews on TV.

After saying he thought it was wrong of the airline to kick her off the plane, he said "I wish they'd worry as much about how people smell."

Jim

Board just about any flight to Las Vegas, and you're likely to see a number of young ladies dressed just like this one was.

As long as she didn't do a Sharon Stone "leg cross" :o
Nothing wrong with the way she is dressed. :)

I saw her on the Today Show, good looking chick and there was nothing wrong with the way she was dressed.

I also knew it was coming when Southwest Airlines made the statement "we were responding to other customer's concerns." Translation? Some fat/ugly/bitter/jealous woman probably complained.

I just flew southwest and hate it,they have those stupid a b c lines and people fight over the 1st couple spots, lol. Like elementary school.

Problem was... she did

well then she should have been kicked off for her behavior , not her dress.
and if she really did that, she's guilty of lewd and lascivious behavior.
So deal with that. Why say it's how she was dressed.

If what you say is true, and I haven't seen that in any of the news accounts.

Bob, that's what I heard on radio out here, along with her wearing the same outfit on GMA the next morning and she 'forgot' to cross her ankles then also...

so not once, but twice?

OK, here's a take you can bash away at:
I saw her the following morning wearing the "Outfit" she had on and it was my opinion that she was screaming for attention like a teenager at the mall. The "skirt", and I use the term loosely was shorter than any shorts Daisy Duke ever wore and I'm not sure you couldn't see her crotch while standing much less expecting it to remain covered throughout the entire flight. I'll stand behind SWA for their decision because I'm not in this for my pornographic entertainment, I"m in it for the public airplane ride with women, children, families and, yes, men who would over exaggerate their interest in such a get-up. I raised six kids and have a religious conviction that requires morality to be at the forefront of my behavior-especially in public. I've never found public nudity (or getting as close as could be deemed legal) to be appealing. There a dark corner of our world for this stuff but there are laws about public indecency. Why must we even come close to crossing that line? I find intimacy to be a vital part of my life but strongly believe it should be kept well within a number of confines for it to be appropriate. The airport isn't such a place.

There's something to bash away at! Have at it boys, girls and ACLU-ers.

I have never found clothing that display one's religious beliefs to be appealing. So, I guess the next time I am on SWA and see someone wearing such clothing, I should complain that I find it offensive and want that person removed from the plane.

Is that ridiculous? Sure is. But no less ridiciulous than the idea that people with your requirement for your specific morality get to decide what other people wear when they travel.

And so it has begun!

Jim, for the record, I'm not speaking of ankle length dresses w/hair bundled, full beards and black clothing for the masses, I"m speaking about covering one's private parts as the law states is mandatory. Nothing more-nothing less. This lady's crotch was easily exposed and I find that to have crossed the line. It may appeal to you but I'll have to ask, is this what you hope your wife, daughter, and grandaughter dresses like?

I believe you may have misinterpreted my preference of clothing to appear as the Amish or something. While I respect their religion and especially their adherance to tradition, I'm speaking of clean, modest clothing that you can see every day, where no private parts are unnecessarily exposed. You know, like the laws of indecent exposure dictate.

You had to know this was coming! I expect a great deal more!

I don't see anything wrong with the way she is dressed. And it was 106 degrees when she boarded.

I don't see it as perverted..or pornographic..and if anyone here was on that plane..I doubt they would complain. And not because you like it..it just didn't draw that kind of attention.

A non-issue made into an issue as far as I can see.

Would you also approve had she been wearing pasties? (barely inside the law by some interpretations) I guarantee you that there would be no question what color her underwear were if she was even wearing any. As I see it, any time I have to explain or apologize for another's public behavior it's less than acceptable whether it be language, demeanor, dress or otherwise.

I also understand some really like it when the opposite sex exposes as much as they can, as this girl did. I believe it was Jeff Foxworthy who said "once you've seen one woman naked, you want to see them all naked." I just don't happen to share such philosophy.

Modesty hasn't gone out of style since the world began. I doubt it will ever for folks like myself.
