Sonoma night time qualifying

Unspectacular to say the least! Hight and Prock are losing their touch!
That was as bad a funny car session I’ve seen in a long time in perfect conditions!

What was the track temp? Looked like nice night race conditions but not sure why the track didn’t get prepped to support it. After the FC round, I thought they should refund the spectator $$. Then some of the TF cars made decent runs but overall it sucked. Especially with all the hype going in.

Track temp 94 degrees. NHRA’s change in track prep is the culprit from what I hear. I’d be pissed to sit thru last nights FC session

Couldn't figure out why so many fuel cars couldn't make it down the track. I was there and weather was same as every Friday night at Sonoma. I go to a lot if events and that was the worst Funny Car qualifying round I have ever seen. Almost like everyone used the same tuneup except Alexis.

The transmission fluid oildown in the right lane, Friday afternoon, didn't help. NHRA is still trying to fix that lane on Saturday.

According to the posted results, 6 FCs went over 315 mph in Q1 in the right lane. Since then, None or one. Really surprised it couldn’t be fixed overnight. I think the last few years there exists the deepest field of top shelf crew chiefs ever. They didn’t get stupid between rounds. I’d be really pissed if I were a crew chief or owner or sponsor who treks across the country to find a one lane race track. Not to mention the lousy show for fans. Need some magic in the next couple hours.

Does NHRA still use the jet dryer? Not that even it would have helped for that mess. Even T. Pedregon was going on about how it was a horrible oildown (one of the worst he’s seen), and ATF is worse than oil.

So, it still didn’t come back on Sat, huh? Weird. What changed with the NHRA track prep?

(later edit). Did a little reading on this and found one terrible article, and then this one, which is more readable from 2018.

Q4 Top Fuel both lanes seemed more or less decent and there were some real good runs. But Q4 FC sure seemed like it was a left-lane only session.

Probably NHRA’s worst att ever to stage a race. Short field in both TF and FC, no proStocks, stands about 1/3 full in addition to the Friday night fiasco of qualifing. Hell, even the vendors stayed away. Major dissipointment this year. Oh well, off to Boise next week

admittedly Sunday elimination rounds went smoothly with plenty of goof close races
