Social Media and Drag Racing (10 Viewers)

Bobby really nailed it in this article. It's not just happening in drag racing, I see the same nonsense spewed about in other forms of racing.

Good article, but I'd say it isn't social media alone that's killing drag racing (along with just about any other topic) but rather the hoards of users, especially the earbud generation, with zero brains who live for and off social media, that are clearly addicted to it, that are doing the killing (along with killing social media at the same time).

Admission - I have no Facebook, Tik-Tok, Instagram, nor any other social media account. I just stick with bulletin board type sites like this. Far better I think.

Think about TV network news. Once was good and solid, but when the networks discovered it can make money through ad revenue (started with 60 Minutes), it too went way downhill, and now is basically dead.

I agree. It happens on here all the time, and considering we are a Drag Race friendly sight seems counterproductive. Just look at the stuff that gets posted about sanctioning bodies, Track lengths, owners/management, and mostly from sources that have no direct involvement (most are not even racers/team owners).

IMO industry specific forums (like this site for primarily nhra pro drag racing) can be a helpful barometer.
not all the time or for every subject, but on occasion i think it can provide a fairly accurate pulse.
what i would want to know is who is traveling to events and buying adimission tickets for the first time,
then figure out the cross section of that group, and was social media a contributing factor in their decision to spend money.

One advantage of forums/bulletin boards (showing my "internet age", lol) is they are generally bot-resistant, the main Achille's Heel of the major SM sites.

Bill - Agreed. One can have an informed, critical opinion and be more spot on than those who like to criticise just for the sake or doing so.
