What am I gonna' do in light of last weekend's terrible incident.

Well........

1. I'm making a donation to DRAW. For every incident like last weeks (I mean in no way to diminish the loss), there are many more Billy William's and the like (God Bless you Doug Herbert, for being his friend) who either they or their familys or both suffer for years or even decades. They are a fantastic, worthwhile, selfless organization that deserves our support. I am sending $50 through Paypal. Pretty much peanuts these days, but hey, my limo ain't double parked out front:rolleyes:........

2. Hopefully this will not run into a fortune, but if I hear of a racer getting hurt or god forbid, worse, I'm gonna' find their address and send something their way, hey, a note and whatever I can afford, direct. If someone is injured I do not think they or their family will be running to the Casino to cash in............

3. Vote with my wallet, and hey, NHRA, get your stuff together and fix these tracks. I won't be coming back until you get PROACTIVE and "Dedicate to safety"...........it ain't just a slogan anymore. You make plenty of bucks at these events, how about at least doing your best to protect your racers, Nitro down to ET brackets. Don't fix or change venues to safer facilities?, I will not be renewing next year. I spend alot with you, you have been notified right here.

3a. Write Glendora a letter, and let them know this directly, not email, in print..........On PAPER:eek:;)

4. Gonna' be a nicer guy right here, right now. This place has many good people, and things like the "politics room" are off limits for me. Hard feelings come from that place IMO. I do not care if it exists or not, but sorry, no matter how much I or someone else argues, my mind ain't gonna' change, and no, I won't change my vote. Besides, my blood pressure will thank me..................
You know who you guys are, and we have disagreed and sometimes it got ugly, but we have PM'd for the most part, got to converse about stuff besides that crap. and you are all good guys in my book, hope you feel the same.

Oh yeah, sorry Joe, my nerves were raw after Saturday and I took some of it out on you. I can be a ass.

All in all now I at least will take positive steps to improve matters that I do have control over, which alas, really ain't much.

That is what I will do.

Just think what could be done to help if more of us did the same.

So.....................

Rex, you are a great example to us all. Life's just too short to carry contentions of any sort and yeah, we can make a difference at any level. You've inspired me and I too, will make a DRAW donation.

Should any others be so inspired to act, here's the link:

Welcome to DRAW Online

My compliments on your message. There's a great degree of cutting through the noise, static, and rhetoric. You hit the points that really matter and I hope others are inspired.

Just about the time I'm ready to give this place up, a message like yours appears.

Thanks again.

I love this place and the people here......whether I agree or not! I cannot read/discuss my favorite sport with too many people I physically interface with on a daily basis.

This is good.....it is! :)

I want to thank all of you for your nice comments.

I, like Dan, have from time to time felt the same.

However we are all connected through the love of this sport, and leaving what has come to be extended family, more or less, is pretty much a non issue.

So you all might be stuck with me for good:eek:

I want to keep this thread going for a while.

Not for any reason other than to help support DRAW.

Carol Gibbs sent me the nicest message, I was so impressed by her thoughtfulness and kindness to do so.

I know that there have been almost 500 views of this post 'till now.

If everyone sent a buck (ONE DOLLAR:D) DRAW would have almost $500.00 coming their way already.

Geeez...........I spend fifty bucks at Starbucks  per week.

I do not mean to imply people MUST, just give it a thought.

Again, thank you all.

Hat's off to you Rex and especially for your contribution to DRAW. When I came off the top fuel bike two years ago up in Canada, I was really trashed. Along comes DRAW and contacts my wife while I was still in the trauma center and asked what they could do. From that day forward, until I returned to work some months later, they helped out every week, in every way they could. Since that time, I've made sure they are on my short list (very short--1 member) of contributions on a regular basis. I can never say enough about them, or thank them adequately.

Now if we can just work on yer politics a bit.....;)

Well done Rex. If memory serves me correctly, Draw sends out updates with some sort of mailing address so you can in fac, have means to send a personal message to a racer who's down and out.

I haven't been a DRAW member for several years, so I'm not sure if that's still the case.

does DRAW still have a booth at National Events? last year at Richmond, every time I walked by, I laid a ten spot on the table. Better that, then wasting money on beer at track prices.

Thanks Toni.

I'm glad you are well after that nasty spill you took.

And thank you for sharing your experience with DRAW.

As far as my politics?

Tell ya' what.

The very DAY.....that Al Frankin and Sean Hannity are debating/arguing on TV, and all of a sudden, simultaineously, both of them point to the other and declare............. "YOU'RE RIGHT"!!!!!

That will be the day I'll switch.;):p

Got it Rex!!

Yes Karl, far as I know they still have a booth, or they did in Seattle last year. I had fun there last year. I was out front shilling for them and bugging the passerbys to stop and help out. Probably made an as* of myself, but some folks did stop.

At every event. Usually in the corner of one of the manufacturer's booths.

I never miss it, dropping by first thing Sunday, they print up ladders for the events that make great note taking sheets. They want a dollar a ladder (e.g. TF, FC, PS is $3). They'll even sell you a pen for a buck. I always round it up to $10, sometimes to $20. And give generously when they send me the envelope at home.
