Smith Suffers First Round Loss in Rockingham

Rickie Smith’s Skull Gear IHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock car did not give him the results he was looking for this past weekend at Rockingham Dragway.

Starting off in the eighth position for raceday on Sunday, Smith was not happy with the way his car was running thus far.

“We ran a pretty decent pass Friday night, but we just haven’t been able to improve on it. We ran three 6.36 passes this weekend during qualifying and only varied by one to two thousandths of a second each time. We have a heck of a bracket car, but we need to be a little faster to be competitive in IHRA Pro Stock,” said Smith.

Going into round one he would face off against Anthony Paone, however after an uncharacteristically late light Smith would lose on a holeshot.

“I don’t know what happened. I mean, I was just late, dead late. There is no excuse for it. Normally I am the one getting the holeshots. Oh well, sometimes it just smacks you in the face and I won’t let it happen again. This team is far too good to let things like this get us down. We will just work harder and get ‘em next time out,” said Smith.

Smith will head out next to Tulsa, OK for the IHRA Skull Shine Sooner Nationals, May 25-27.
