Smith Hopes the Good Englishtown Memories will Continue

The 2007 NHRA POWERade Pro Stock Motorcyle Champion, Matt Smith is hoping that his bike problems are fixed this weekend heading into the Lucas Oil SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

At the two previous events, Smith has encountered problems with his Nitrofish Buell shifting, both on raceday. In St. Louis it would not come out of third gear and last time out at Chicago it would not go into high gear.

Smith has worked day in and day out in the raceshop and hopefully has his bike ready for his most memorable track on the NHRA tour.

The New Jersey based track carries many memories for Smith, some good and some bad. In 2005, Smith was making a qualifying pass on his bike and as he drove past the bleachers, the wind slammed him into the wall ,crushing every bone in his foot, and forcing him to the sidelines for the remainder of the season. However, Smith retaliated in 2006 when he won his first NHRA National event at the Englishtown racetrack.

“I definitely have some memories from Englishtown,” stated Smith. “I have had some good runs and some bad ones at that track, hopefully this year it will be all good ones. We seem to have our problem fixed, so would should be able to concentrate on making this Buell run quick now.”

Smith and his Nitrofish Buell sit second in the point standings and Smith hopes to gain ground on the points leader this weekend.
