Matt Smith and his Nitrofish Buell head into Norwalk, Ohio this weekend with the Pro Stock Motorcycle class track record. The 2007 POWERade Champ put down blistering numbers at the ¼ mile dragstrip last year at the inaugural race and has all intentions of doing so again this year.
Qualifying No. 1 and setting the track record with a 6.965 in 2007, Smith looked like the favorite to win. However, Smith soon encountered problems with his Buell in the final round and ended up as the runner-up instead of the winner. Smith is determined not to let this year’s win get away from him.
“We have been running well here lately,” said Smith. “There are a lot of good bikes right now in the class, which makes it very interesting for the fans I am sure, but we want to get this Nitrofish Buell back on top. We made some great passes here at Norwalk last year and hopefully we can back that record up this year.”
Smith sits in the third position in the point standings, but is looking to gain momentum at the second ever NHRA race at the Ohio based track.
