Smith’s Weekend Ends Early

Pro Stock Motorcycle Points Leader, Matt Smith and his Torco Race Fuels Buell headed to Reading, Penn. with high hopes.

Struggling somewhat during qualifying over the weekend, Smith worked hard to fix his problems. Qualifying in the 12th position, his first bottom half position of the year, Smith was not satisfied as he headed in to raceday eliminations.

After waiting it out for a day due to severe rain at the Maple Grove Raceway, Smith would face Andrew Hines in the first round.

Smith left on Hines and had him covered until the 1000 foot mark. Smith’s motor would then break, leaving Smith losing only his second first round match-up of the year.

“We are obviously not happy with the results,” said Smith. “We have been trying some new things here lately in order to get ready for Indy. We have learned what will work and will not work, so we will just go back and evaluate things for Indy.”

Smith will be your No. 1 seed in the Countdown, as he heads to O’Reilly Raceway Park as the defending champion of the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis next week.
