Shirleys Firesuit-Just in time for Christmas

Someone should tell the seller they put the decimal point in the price about 1 , maybe even 2 places to far to the right.

I didn't check the fine print but maybe there's a car included with the suit? I too think the world of Shirley and her career but that's uh....wishful thinking.

Wow, this dude must be trying to retire with the sell of those things like ASAP, lol.

Even if it was a lot of firesuits say, Garlits, Force, Prudhomme, Schumacher, Dixon, and a few more I still wouldn't pay 24,999.99 for them all, lol

He must be needing some serious Christmas money!!!!!

Methinks shirley may have a hand in the final sale........JMO.

I've read this thread with interest.

From the number of posts complaining about the price it would appear that some members here would have bought the firesuit had the price been lower.

Guess what? We're not the target audience for items like this because most of the members here are too hard core. Maybe WE wouldn't fork out 25 big ones for a firesuit, but there are serious collectors out there who might.

Collecting is all about desire. If you don't want it, don't collect it.

How many of us have extensive cloisonne pin collections? What are they worth? Only what someone might pay for them, and right now that doesn't appear to be much.

Full disclosure: I've been friends with Shirley for over 40 years and can assure you that this is the legit firesuit that she wore during the last tour, and in the last race at Pomona.

I also know that Shirley had several sets of arm restraints, and the ones shown with the suit are not the ones she wore on the last pass. I know this because when she got back to the pits she took them off and signed one for me and gave the other one to someone else (neither of us can remember who she gave it to).

Would I pay $25,000 for this firesuit? First I'd have to HAVE the twenty-five grand, but if I had it I'd seriously consider this purchase because I suspect that in maybe five years it could be worth close to $40,000 or more. Much would, of course, depend on the economy and the whole collector marketplace. If I knew the answers to that I'd be making investments instead of posting here!

But as I said, a collectible is only worth what someone might pay for it.

Good post, Jon.

Ever watch Antiques Road Show on PBS? $60,000 for two hand drawn 8"x10" miniature pictures. Some rug and vase from Argentina for $50,000. I'd rather have Shirley's firesuit for 1/2 that as a collector. Shirley is a legend in the sport of drag racing and is responsible for paving the way for women everywhere in motorsports.

Anyone looking at the suit on this web site is thinking it should be for sale in the classified section under "used clothes."
