Roy Hill unveils new sponsors, aims to defend U.S. Nationals SS/BA crown (1 Viewer)

(9-1-2011) CLERMONT, IN – The top qualifier awards keep piling up for Roy Hill and the Phoenix Racing Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Super Stock team. Now he just needs a win to go with them.

After a successful outing at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Southeast Division race held last weekend at zMax Dragway in Concord, NC, Hill and his team enter the 57th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals with high hopes.

At zMax, Hill and his teammate, hired gun Grant Lewis, qualified numbers one and two in Super Stock competition. Hill was entered in Super Stock/A Automatic, while Lewis competed in B Automatic and made it to the semifinals before a staging issue disqualified him.

“We had a great weekend at zMax,” Hill said. “For it to be as hot as it was, the cars ran great, and I feel really confident heading to Indy.”

The cars’ performance should come as no surprise. Earlier in the week, Hill announced that Roush Yates would be supplying the engines for the team’s Cobra Jets, and the power increase was evident immediately.

“The timing for our switch to Roush Yates couldn’t be better, and now we can go into the biggest race in the world, the U.S. Nationals, with supreme confidence in our powerplants. It’s going to be hot again in Indy, but these engines don’t seem to mind the heat.”

Hill will want all the power he can get as he tries to repeat his U.S. Nationals performance from a year ago, when he won the Super Stock/B Automatic class eliminations over P.B. Candies. Of course, he’s also eyeing the Super Stock crown for his first win of 2011, and to get it he will have to wade through an immense field of nearly 150 entries.

In addition to partnering with Roush Yates, Hill is also pleased to announce the addition of two new supporters: Impact Racing and Advertising Edge.

“Impact Racing has been a longtime supporter of Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School, and now we’re bringing them on board with the Super Stock program,” Hill said. “With their recent acquisition by Mastercraft Safety, we’re happy to have their support and look to grow the relationship moving forward.”

Don Roe, President of Advertising Edge, the official uniform supplier of the NHRA, looks forward to being a part of Roy Hill’s growing program.

“Advertising Edge is proud to become the official race uniform supplier of Roy Hill’s Drag Racing School and the Phoenix Racing Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Super Stock team. We look forward to providing the most technically advanced apparel and signage for Roy, and our staff is excited to be working with him for years to come.”

Advertising Edge is a premier branding solution for businesses and organizations through the use of imprinted sportswear and promotional products. Their USA factories continually offer customers the most advanced sublimation, screen printing, and embroidery technology available for over thirty years.

For the “Big Go”, Hill also has partnered with longtime friend Ronnie Jones and his world famous restaurant, Bar-B-Que Heaven in Indianapolis. Bar-B-Que Heaven has been a family owned and operated restaurant for three generations. The doors opened on their first store in 1952, and since then the family has added another location and two on-site facilities, one at Lucas Oil Stadium and the other at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They have also opened a food distribution division.

Along with these new marketing partners, Hill’s team continues to be backed by Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated, Alsco, Jacky Jones Ford, and Goodyear.

“I couldn’t do it without the help of each and every one of my supporters,” said Hill. “We’ve really had some fast Cobra Jets all year. We just need to put one of them in the winner’s circle, and there’s no place I’d rather do that than right here at the U.S. Nationals.”
