Route 66 Friday night

Really only one qualifier?! Better take a look at how your ticket sales are gonna go for next year. Unfair to racers and fans who pay for this! Just sayin'

The weather was to blame, it happens. Joliet is impacted by rain almost as much as Reading.

The weather was not to blame. They weren't supposed to start session 2 until 7:15 and they were partially through session 1. There is no reason Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle couldn't have gotten a second shot at the track. The nitro cars either for that matter. It was over just before 8:45. You can't tell me they couldn't turn around the funny cars and dragsters and wrap the show up by 10:30pm. They got their one session in so no refunds. The new NHRA way of sticking to the schedule and just cancelling or moving sessions sucks. The weather was fine, not a cloud in the sky, cool breeze. Mid 70s. A beautiful night to enjoy racing.

Same crap as always. If they get a round of Pros in they have got your money. Not running a round saves them money, that they can split up in bonuses at the end of the year. People come to see Nitro, ever see them cancel a Pro Stock to run Nitro?

I have been at that track a lot of years, and I know I have been there at 11PM or later a couple times watching cars run. No curfiew that I know of.

Weather was to blame Dave ... because of the weather TAD had their qualifying session pushed to today, competition eliminator racers had their R1 pushed to today in an attempt to keep the Pro schedule somewhat on time.

Unless you were involved in the actual decision and know the reasons why, it is not the time to throw trash at NHRA. You might have felt like it was a beautiful night and I am sure it was for being a spectator. Do you know what the dew point was? Do you know if there was moisture (dew) collecting on the surface?

When NHRA make a decision in the name of safety, they get crucified. When NHRA doesn't make a decision perceived to affect safety, they get crucified. Holy cow ... NHRA will never be able to satisfy the Mater. It is easier to just pile on and yell "we got screwed again".

I believe they have a curfew, whether it is self-imposed or by the City of Joliet, I dont know. Memorial Day weekend they had an Electric Daisy Carnival music festival at the circle track with fireworks in the early morning hours and music until 6 am. I guess they had over 500 noise complaints from the communities to the east of the track. I believe either Joliet and/or the track wanted to be good neighbors and came up with a curfew.

I think that the weather conditions figured somewhat into the decision, although they did make the decision very early into the the 1st session. I did hear during Schumachers top end interview that either his visor or canopy had fogged up, so it was probably a good idea not to run a 2nd session.

Then why doesn't NHRA just say it up front on the website so we all don't have to speculate.

Wow. Just wow. Alan was on the PA relaying a warning from the National Weather Service about taking cover. The clouds looked like something Dorothy would have run from. But here on the Mater, it's "we got screwed!"

Chris ... you know its been like this for sometime. Cancel runs and the fans scream "we got screwed". Run the session in less than ideal (or unsafe) conditions and the Mater wants to burn down Glendora. Most times it seems as if people here just want to complain without facts or any objective judgment. It seems to be a convenient position to hide behind here.

Trying to be totally objective here, the sky looked more threatening when they were running TAFC and when they called up PSB before the rain delay, than they were when the first pro session ended. The first time I heard it announced they were only running one session was during Pro Stock. At that time, the radar looked pretty good and it was probably a little too early to cancel it duew to potential dew conditions. It is very possible that NHRA was afraid of dew settling in, but other than Schumacher mentioning it, I didnt see anybody covering or wiping the windshields of the funny cars or wiping dew off of the cars. We were still sitting outside the trailer till around 11:30 and saw no signs of dew. Of course, hindsight is 20/20 and they probably could have run the 2nd session but it would have been a late night. If NHRA did cancel it for safety concerns, I cant really blame them. I know we have been sent down the track either early in the morning or late at night when condtions are sometimes questionable. Christopher, I didnt see you on the S/C entry list, were you racing this weekend, or just there spectating?

I don't "hide" behind anything I post. I'm right here and was there at the track all day. Like it was mentioned, it was more threatening earlier, but no sirens of any type went off. Whatever their reason, they really dupped spectators into coming and believing they would be watching 2 rounds as the weather cleared. None of the drivers were complaining about the conditions. BIG mistake on their part to cut it short. Word of mouth is your best advertising because its FREE.

I'm sorry that as a paying spectator I felt that I got screwed out of what I came to see. If you guys are just speculating from behind your computer and didn't put out any money to be in the stands, then you should just avoid this thread. They did have a huge storm pass through, and weather was always a threat, but after 7pm it was all clear skies and sunshine. I got to the track just as they were finishing up pro stock round 1. Unbelievably less than 1/2 mile to the east it was a complete deluge. I was in shock that they were even racing with the storm we had to drive through to get there. I'm simply stating that I knew the risks of rain/weather/whatever going in. To walk up to the ticket window in sunny skies and pay 90 dollars for a pair of tickets under the assumption there was a slight delay in the schedule and I would get to actually see a bonus end to session one was great. Sitting in the stands midway through an amazing funny car session and reading on comp plus and drag race central from my phone that the final session was cancelled, and I would not even get to see pro stock bike or car, was exceptionally maddening. As the evening progressed and we filed out of the stands before it was even dark was even more maddening. The track was fine. There was no dew. There was no rain. I was NOT the only paying spectator making the walk back to the parking lot confused and upset to why there was no second session. Many of them got there even after I did and paid for a night of spectacular NHRA drag racing and got to see 1 session of top fuel, a jet car, and a thanks for coming here is the door. Oh by the way, no refund.

Exactly my point! I assumed I was paying to see 2 sessions. Some of us have to work on fridays and still get done as soon as possible and rush to the track to see the sport we love since it is only around once a year. I'll think better of it next time.

WELL SAID DAVE!! I'm right there with you along with all the locals that live around here and attended last night! Wasn't this suppose to be about "
THE SHOW" for the spectators? Maybe more like "SHOW ME THE MONEY"!

On another note, what's up with Brittany parking in the Pro's? Weren't they all parked in the back of the track? Oh wait, its that MONEY talkng again to buy a spot. Damn, I'll learn how this works one of these days.

Ummm...Brittany is driving a Top Fuel dragster, last time I checked that's a Pro category....

Seriously? Really?

Clues are on aisle one, stop back when you pick one up.
