ROBERT PATRICK TOP PRO STOCK QUALIFIER AT TMP FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

CAYUGA, ONT. – Robert Patrick said the key to winning this weekend’s IHRA Canadian Nationals was to be the quickest and fastest car in every aspect of the game.

The Purvis Ford-sponsored Patrick, from Fredericksburg, Va., is halfway through the battle and he’s at the head of the game.

Patrick ran a 6.343 elapsed time at 218.30 miles per hour to land in the number one qualifying position and just .002 from beating the Toronto Motorsports Park track record. The current point leader catapulted from seventh in qualifying to the top during the final session.

“This is a great moment for my team,” Patrick said as he accepted the Quarter Max Pro Stock Challenge award. “This falls in line with the goals we had going into the weekend. Getting to the top of the list in this class is a tough challenge. I am glad we had what it took to get there.

“To pull this off two years in a row is pretty incredible. We just need a win to finish the weekend off and we’ll certainly give it our best effort tomorrow.”

This marks the second consecutive year that Patrick has qualified on the pole at this event.

Patrick has a strong track record at this event dating back to his first visit in 2004. He won that event and finished runner-up to Steve Spiess in 2005. Last year he was a quarter-finalist.

Patrick will race Spiess in the first round of eliminations.
