CAYUGA, ONT. – Robert Patrick has a sweet spot in his racing heart win he travels north of the U.S. and with good reason, he wins. Headed into this weekend’s IHRA ACDelco Canadian Nationals, the Fredericksburg, Va.-based Patrick has captured a victory in each of the three stops on the IHRA Knoll Gas Nitro Jam tour in Canada.
In fact, Patrick won at Toronto Motorsports Park in 2004.
“This was the first race we won after racing in the NHRA for many years,” Patrick said. “This race seems to bring out the best in us.”
Patrick returned a year later to post a runner-up finish. Two years and two finals produces and enviable track record.
“I feel pretty good about this track,” Patrick said. “If the weather holds out then I feel like we have as good of a shot as anyone out there of running in the top five and winning.”
Last year, Patrick qualified No. 1 and reached the quarter-finals. He sails in uncharted waters this season. Patrick enters as the point leader.
“We just want to maintain our ground and forge ahead,” Patrick said. “We’re going to race smart and try not to do anything stupid. Keeping the car consistent is a big key to doing well.
“We have the confidence that our car is good. The game plan is to parlay that into round wins and let the chips fall where they may.”
